Always take the one near the aisle and nearest the emergency doors. IF you are a frequent flyer to the toilet then include this option.IF you want to get served food fast, no -no need to sit near the food area, just ask for special meal.

I would say an aisle seat. If you are worried about crashes, choose one near the front of the plane.

In a crash, people in the front of the plane are more likely to survive. But a crash is far less likely than a highway accident, so get comfortable as best you can.

Most if not all airlines start food/beverage service in the front. If you are way in the back, you have to wait longer, and you may not get what you want because they ran out of it.

The real choice of position is aisle or window. No sane person would pick the center seat except to sit next to a loved one.

I always feel trapped in a window seat if I'm flying alone. Trying to get over two (maybe sleeping) persons to go potty, ask for a glass of water, or just walk around during the night is more than I can handle.

Also, with service going down the drain fast, being in an aisle seat allows you to talk to the server up close (they can ignore the pathetic person trying to get their attention from the window seat).

Check out http://www.seatguru.com/ for specifics on the airline and type of airplane you are taking. My preference is for the window as I use it to sleep against. If there is an option of sitting in a seat with more leg room for an extra fee (economy plus) I say pay the money if the flight is over 8 hours as it will make a big difference in your comfort. Avoid being near the bathrooms as people tend to congregate there and can be very noisy. The seats by the exit rows tend to be colder so bring your own blanket as they do not have extras on board.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I would think it would be best to take the window seat over the aisle seat. Gives you a place to rest your head and probably sleep. If you ever need to go the restroom the other person would have to move for you. If you were to take the aisle seat you wouldn't have a nice place to rest your head and you always have to look out when the window person needs to leave their seat and it sometimes gets annoying.

When I have flown overseas, I preferred sitting towards the front (there are large screens on some of the biggest jets that are the size of a home television) that they showed videos on that weren't available on the personal video.

I also found that I preferred sitting by the window, not because there is anything to look at, but you can rest your head and sleep, no one asks to pass you to go to the restroom, and what I found even MORE bothersome about the aisle: The stewardesses' carts would bump me and wake me up, or they would bump me when handing food and drinks to the others in my row.

eh. . . they'll all get you there. It's noisier in the back, but I've done it. Usually on overseas flights they use the big planes with the large isle of five or six seats down the middle and the two isles of two or three seats on the sides. Those side seats are often darker, easier to get in and out of, and more private.

It is absolutely up to you. There are pros and cons for sitting both in front and behind.

Pros of sitting in front: You get to leave the plane first when you get to your destination. Noise wise, I would say it is the same. Because when you are in Econ class, the first row starts pretty near the wings anyway.

Cons of sitting in front: You'll be the last one to board.

Pros of sitting behind (last few rows): You are near the toilet (shouldn't matter if the crew keeps the toilet clean like for example SQ flights) easier for you to relieve yourself and you have more space to stand around as and when you feel the need to release the tension in your legs. Also, most last rows only have 2 seats instead of 3.

Cons: of sitting behind: Last one to leave the plane. But hey, if you have checked in luggage, by the time you pass immigration, your bag will be there waiting for you, instead of you waiting for it.

Pros of sitting on aisle: You have more flexibility to move around.

Cons of sitting near aisle: You will be woken up every single time the fella next to you wants to relieve himself. And, you would be more prone to accidents (like, hot coffee or tea during meal times, or being accidentally hit by a trolley).

Pros of sitting near window: Good if you are a sleeper, and don't have the need to relieve yourself as often.

Cons of sitting near window: you might feel cramped if the person next to you is big.

I am listing all these assuming that you are taking Boeing 747-400, and also, based on SIA seat configuration. If you are sitting near the galley, there will be quite alot of noise. Also, both the first row of econ class, and the first row after the galley will not be good for you as that is where parents with infants will be allocated. Personally I prefer last row, window seat (as last rows only have 2 seats left and right, you have a lot more space between you and the window), and in case of emergency, most planes will nose dive.

Sitting near the emergency exit seems like a good idea if you have long legs, but really, airlines are more interested if you look physically fit enough to operate the doors and rafts if there's an emergency. That's why, they will never put children, and the elderly there, and also never petite ladies. And if you notice, man will never be placed next to a child travelling by himself. It is always a female.

Almost forgot. Meals. If you do not want special meal (because most airlines have very limited special meals) Last row and the first row gets served first. So the people in the middle will starve for a while.
