no. If you'd been a first-timer, I'd have said hush up and take it like a big girl (j/k...) but if YOU think he was heavy handed, I'd keep shopping.
At least it healed well!

Very beautiful tattoo!
I think you should shop around. Go to other tattoo places and check out the work of the artists, as well as their customer resposes.
I think he did a great job, but there are millions of very talented tattoo artists. I'm sure you can find one better than the first.

How will you know if the next artist you choose isn't as equally heavy handed or even more so until they work on you? Frankly, you won't know. Having an artist that does quality work but is heavy handed is a trade off you have to determine whether it's worth it. I have two artists who both do excellent work...she does phenominal detail work and is quite light handed, while he does excellent color work but is heavy handed...pick your poison.

I'd talk to another artist, see if you can find one that you trust... if his technique was so painful, that you found it uncomfortable, you should probably look for another....
that being said, I think the work was beautiful, although the shading could use a little work... but if you're happy with the work, go back.... I think what you have is beautiful... (the shading issues could be just due to the quality of photograph)
good luck!

my parents think my tattoo artist is heavy handed but his tattoo work is great so i am willing to deal with it. your tattoo looks all.... mottled and not smoothly inked. is it supposed to look like that? i mean, is that the style you were looking for? it's not something i would get so i can't say i would go to your artist. BUT if YOU are happy with your tattoo then it is totally worth the extra pain in my opinion.

Er.
His work doesn't really look like it's anything special.
I'm sure you can find an artist thats just as good that doesn't cause excess pain.

no...and especially if he pressed to hard, you might have had some scaring...i wouldn't use that artist again. I mean there are so many better ones out there that are just as good probably better, and they probably wouldnt be as painful
