That is the problem with our country these days. You are right the community would be outraged if the officer killed the child. Not looking at it in the eyes of the officer. It is always the officer being the bad guy for killing a child that has pointed a gun at him or her. In this case we should blame the parents of this child for not raising him right. Whenever I pull over a car with kids or a car with adults I am always on the look out for a weapon to come out of nowhere. This child should be charged as an adult and the prosecutor should seek the death penalty in the case. To set an example that this won't be tolerated.

Perhaps it stems from the fact the police officers are either bullying people, setting them up to confiscate their property, persecuting them based on how they look, or are enforcing unjust drug laws. Perhaps if their was more honor in the job people would be more outraged when an office gets killed. I wanted to be a cop since I was a little kid, until I found through personal experience just how corrupt the system is. It's unfortunate, because a lot of officers start off with the intent to do good, but are indoctrinated into this religious-like belief system that people are inherently evil if they don't agree with and comply with unjust laws. They also don't show a respect for the law, often breaking it themselves, and when this happens they all band together to protect the cop that has gone outside the law. How are common people to respect the law if the law enforcers don't show respect for the law? Perhaps if law reform is made to remove some of the more fascist laws and restore some of our Freedoms there will be a change in attitude, and the job might regain some honor. I have personally seen how mistreatment of the innocent by corrupt officers has caused a shift in attitude against law enforcement. It would definitely help if persecuting the innocent wasn't so lucrative, and if prosecutors who intentionally, knowingly, prosecute the innocent could be held accountable for their actions. Current prosecutorial immunity laws prevent justice, and allow corruption.
Edit: In response to the lovely lady that commented that people who have my viewpoint have usually been arrested: I have a clean criminal record and have never been arrested. I have been racially profiled, been the victim of illegal searches and have been the victim of police harrassment, as has my family and friends. I've also dated the daughter of a cop, and have heard the cop admit to the planting of evidence as a common tactic when real evidence is missing, but they "know" the person is guilty. I think that the brainwashing that you've been given when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance has really taken root. That's sad. There is not Liberty and Justice for All... and won't be until some major law reforms are made.

It happens more often than you think. In my town they stopped making special announcements in the paper about it. They still do have the patrol cars escort the body to the cemetary though. It really upsets me what is happening to kids these days. So many people say let them off the hook because they are just kids but what kind of lesson is that teaching them? That they can get away with whatever and they can make as many mistakes as they want while they are young? For one having kids should be a priviledge and not a right. Second, parents need to take responsibility for thier kids or be punished. Third, the kids need to learn not to be influenced and stop trying to prove things to their friends. It's a vicious cycle that people neglect to realize. Kids are dangerous! I feel the kids should be tried as an adult in any case of a felony. Maybe it would wake some of these kids up. By the way pokerfaces55 two wrongs don't make a right.

When you hear people ranting about Police brutality, it is usually due to the fact they have had one, or numerous problems with law enforcement - arrested, and such.
People will put the police down, and yet, they are the first they think to call when there is an emergency.
I think this kid, if he was caught, or when he is, should be tried as an adult, after all he had a gun, they are not for kids, therefore if he wants to play with the big boys, take him down like the big boys.
This is why so many of our youth are in trouble, is that they are unsupervised, and do not have to pay for what they do to others.... no easy escape to me is the way to go!

Idk, but this whole happening about the 5 officers shot is absolutely HORRIBLE! I know some hate police, but police are still people, they are trying to protect you, they have families and children to go home to.. What happened was so horrible and my condolences go out to the families of ALL victims, I'm thankful my dad wasn't working yesterday, he is an OPD officer.

I am truely sorry for your community's loss, however, getting killed is part of the risk one takes when they go into law enforcement. with the freedoms our country allows us as Americans to have, the right to bear arms and such, we will have police officers being killed. Just like when one joins the military, you have to be smart enough to know that you might have to fight in a war! Good men will always be dying in the pursuit of keeping society safe and under control.

I say if a person is convicted of killing a Law Enforcement Officer they should get the Death penalty and it should be carried out Publically by Hanging, then tickets could be sold and the money given to the Officers Family to help them with their loss. I further favor all assets of the person that kills an Officer being given to the family of the dead Officer. as for the family of the killer, oh well they should have stopped him. BTW did I mention that I am a Law Enforcement and Fire Chaplain?

In my community there is very strong support for the police officer's family. Most police are doing what they do because they believe in justice, and the laws made to achieve that end. It is not about money, although they need that also. They are protecting the innocent citizens. They are concerned about children and family life.

Are YOU demonstrating? Since you feel strongly, you should be.
I'm surprised, because where I live, there's always a great outpouring of community support when a police officer is killed. Also, in any state with a death penalty, killing a police officer is automatically a death-penalty offense.
That said, it's just SILLY to expect the support to come from the family of the shooter, or from the pundits who focus on protecting the poor-and-downtrodden from "the man."

they ether take forever to respond or dont come at all.
and plus people are getting tired of cops handing out
tickets like candy to the working man while murderers
rapist and child molesters are out walking without fear of gettin caught
i grow up when i was young with respect for all cops,
