Mormons believe all but the "Sons of Perdition" will get into a heaven. Joseph Smith and his father and grandfather were all universilests, they believed everyone was going to heaven. So Joseph Smith (possibly influenced by Emmanuel Swedenborg) invented three heavens. You have to convert either in this life or in the hereafter, in order to obtain the highest of the heavens where you will live with Christ and become a God over your own worlds.

Well first of all if you want a real answer you should ask an active member of the Mormon religion. Not peoplee who think they now like the other two peopl that answered your question. They are right in a way, but they are also very wrong. When you die you go to a place called the " Spirit worldd" that is where basically everyone in the worl will be until the second coming or " Judgment day" then depending on how well you lived you life you will go to one of the three kingdoms, but even the lowest kingdom" hell" is better then this world. They say is we even caught a glimpse of it we will all kill ourselves. Then there are the two higher kingdoms, but the answer to you question is no we do n not believe only a certain amount of people will get into heaven because all three kingdoms are a part of heaven only a certain amount of people will be allowed to get in to the highest kingdom, but if you don't make the covents on this earth then you will have a chance in the hereafter.

it is fairly of a puzzling question. Mormons have faith the comparable element as each and each of you do, purely in addition they comprehend that even nevertheless each and each of those commandments have been necessary for salvation - there is no longer one guy or woman on earth who ought to maintain them. So, they instituted what's declared as the Atonement technique. This Atonement technique is different from all different Church or congregation, as that is a chronic ongoing application that keeps shifting each and all of the time. you won't be able to be stored purely by ability of "remission." You, in spite of the place you reside in existence, ought to pass by a chronic atonement which each so often isn't any relaxing and would not build any record of favorites the two. in spite of if by ability of doing so, and by ability of enacting stable works, you have the promise of eternal salvation at the same time with your father in Heaven. This is composed of diverse ranges of the Celestial Kingdom and Terrestial regulation. and people who will pray upon the e book of Mormon and Bible will stumble on it is unquestionably real, because of the fact the spirit confirms those issues very immediately. The contributors do no longer gain this, however the Gospel does and it is infallible.

First of all, it is interesting to note that it appears those who are not familiar with Mormon beliefs feel the need to jump in with their antagonism and contentious remarks.
To the responder who said, "So Joseph Smith (possibly influenced by Emmanuel Swedenborg) invented three heavens." I might add that he [Joseph Smith] might possibly have been influenced by the Apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 1: 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.) Or perhaps he was influenced by the Apostle John (John 14: 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.) Or perhaps he, as a prophet, saw this in a vision from God - see link.
As for the responder who said, "you'll turn into a god. What a perverted belief." Obviously not familiar with Mormon doctrine, but thank you for your opinion. Perhaps this comment arises from the LDS/Mormon belief of eternal progression as taught in the Bible.
As for your question itself "Do Mormons believe only a certain amount of ppl get in2 heaven?" No, there is no prescribed number that will fill heaven.
Latter-day Saints do believe and teach the most expansive concept of heaven. All but those who are referred to as sons of perdition - will merit a place in heaven.

There are three different degrees of "glory" in heaven according to the mormon religion; celestial, terrestrial (NOT aliens) and telestial. Celestial glory is reserved for the most faithful to God and walk and talk with him, they also can "create" other spirits/intelligences/entities.. (Mormons believe it is only for mormons who have gone through Temple ordinances; I have other thoughts) Terrestrial are for people that lived good lives and accepted God and Jesus... they are just not privy to the supreme knowledge and glory because of other transgrences they made in their life.
Telestial is for the lowest of humankind, the murderers, the liars, molesters, etc... BUT, one prophet in the LDS faith said that within a vision he saw the Telestial kingdom and any man that saw it would commit suicide just to get to it, it was so beautiful... What this says to me that we are ALL saved by grace, even the most deviant and evil of us.
The OTHER place, that mormons believe in is outer darkness. This is actually a VERY difficult place to get admission to... lol... the only person we can PROVE to be here is Cain, because he actually witnessed God, talked and walked with him, and yet commited murder against his brother, Abel. He was basically looking at the Sun and denying that it existed, being the ultimate sin.
There is NO set number as to how many entities will be designated into any of these worlds in Mormon scripture.. but I cannot validate heresay or modern "prophesy."

Salvation comes when we accept Jesus Christ. Almost nobody won't accept Him eventually. We will be rewarded according to our dilligence in keeping the Lord's commandments so somebody who won't accept Christ until they're almost forced to won't recieve the same reward as those who do (not because it is a punishment but because that's all they can handle...).
The people who refuse to accept Christ, even as He stands before them and the Holy Ghost tells them He's true and good, are called Sons of Perdition. They cannot be saved because of their own choice. They will be cast into an eternal "hell" which simply refers to their seperation from their Heavenly Father. God doesn't do this, they do.
Heaven can't just simply be a black and white thing because people aren't just black and white. That makes your question difficult to answer. Some of us can handle a greater reward than others. God will give us as much as He can through The Savior Jesus Christ.
This is sort like math. You can't unerstand the higher math untill you get the more basic math. That's why I'm having such a difficult time describing it. It is like trying to teach calculus to someone who is hearing it for the first time. I hope I did a good job! :o)

As a matter of fact, no we don't believe that only a certain amount of people will get into heaven! I believe that the Jehovah Witness Church members think that!
We believe that depending on how you live your life, determines whether you will end up in one place or another!
But, thanks for asking about us! Check out our Church for more answers!

To parrot back those posters who demand that only mormons are qualified to answer, be advised the entire church is lead by a man who on public television stated several times "I don't know that we teach that..." You cannot and will not get a straight answer from mormons as they are taught not to reseach the origins of the doctrine.
Smith used the Swedenbourg model of three separate "Degrees of Glory" as part of his eternal progression theory.
1. God was a man, and was a good man, and his god granted him godhood in a Celestial kingdom.
2. This newly designated god then created all things for this world spiritually, including zillions and zillions of spirit children that he loved dearly.
3. A heated discussion arose about how these 'spirits' could progress to a higher form of existence; the spirit Jesus proposed on plan, the spirit Lucifer proposed another plan, and the result of this discussion was that god threw out 1/3 of his spirit childern (that he dearly loved), cursed another 1/3 to an existance of misery and suffering as Asians and Africans (that he dearly loves), and the final third 'white and smart' so they could find the secret keys and tokens to return to and live with God in his Celestial kingdom. It is not known if this is his own Celestial kingdom or the previous god's CK...
4. But not all these will have the chance, either - only those lucky enough to become mormons, and only those mormons who held current temple recommends right before death will have the slightest chance of living with their heavenly Father in the Celestial kingdom (who loves them best, and couldn't care less about the rest of creation). The remainder get assigned to the terrestial, telestial and outer darkness 'kingdoms'.
5. So, we're looking at possibly several dozen people overall in the top tier, so your chances of winning big in Lotto are enormous by comparision.
