Why is a travel agency always able to give me a better price on an airline ticket than I can get on line from the computer.

Not always! I've ended up with a better price online many times. It depends on what websites you're using. Most travel agencies charge a service fee that isn't always made apparent up front. Some (but not all) airlines also charge a fee on direct bookings. But if you happen to time it right with a service such as Travelocity, you can often snag a low fare before an increase gets into their system, and their fee is very reasonable.

I rarely get a better price from an agent. I normally check http://www.bombasticlife.com - click on "bombastic deals" and then use eithe Kayak, Orbitz or if you are really flexible, then use Hotwire.
