Non melanoma skin cancers have a high cure rate. Basal cell almost never kills unless ignored for many years. Cure rate after excision for a typical basal cell is 95% with a small minority needing additional Mohs surgery treatment to cure.

Sqaumous cell of the skin can spread inward but if they are promptly removed the chances of this happening are small - about 4%. Mohs surgery can also be used for squamous cell skin cancers if needed.

Melanoma is the other type skin cancer and if ignored it can be deadly. It has a high cure rate in adults if diagnosed early and treated promptly. If ignored or allowed to spread the prognosis is not nearly as good.

You can see from these web pages that survival statistics depend on the type and stage of skin cancer but in most cases being diagnosed with a non-melanoma skin cancer does not shorten life expectancy.

I'm guessing that you have made this assumption as survival statistics are given in terms of % surviving 5 years.

99% of melanoma cases will survive 5 years if the cancer is treated before it has spread. Many survive well beyond that, there are just no accurate statistics for this.

if you have skin cancer, find out what kind you have. i have a type called basil cancer, which is in the top layer of skin, and is not terminal in over 90% of cases. but, it does have feelers that spread, so if you worked outside alot in the sun, keep a good check on it. the 5 year thing is like any cancer, if you can stay clear for 5 years you're in pretty good shape.
nothing to fool with.

I have 7 sisters. Two have breast cancer. We were tested for the BRACA Gene-the breast cancer gene. Four of us including me do not have it and four of us do. The sisters who have the BRACA gene have an 85% chance of getting Breast Cancer. With proper treatment all will survive long past five years. In fact a normal fulfilled life.

No. You are thinking of the statistics that they use. You could live longer or shorter depending on the type and how it's treated.
