For a 5 years old child that crave constant attention from adults? We play with him constantly and we take him out for stimulations and entertainment, but sometime we have chores and job to be done, but meanwhile he's still constantly asking questions to distract us from business, do you think by getting a dog for a child, we'll be able to take a breather?

he's the only child, we want to keep it that way, because we think having another child to play with the one we have is not the way to go.

I am a serious dog lover but it is always important to evaluate your circumstances before getting one.
If you have a garden and time to exercise one then they are a great idea for kids, and they are great company for everyone in the family.
A dog is great for teaching kids responsibilities and compassion for animals.
We have two big muts and they are part of our family.

You will be creating more jobs for yourself! A 5 year old will still need to be supervised with a pet if he cannot spend time alone as it is.
Better to give him chores to do, make play dates with other children or find entertainment he can handle on his own. Set a timer so that he knows when it is time for him to be able to seek you out ( of course he should know he can get you for any emergency!).

Only if you own your house, and then I think it would just make you even busier. Dogs are not easy to care for, just easier than children. It takes more time, money and activity. Answering your child's questions about why? everything( I was that kind of kid), means he's bright and knows he doesn't have the answer. Tell him the truth all the time. He'll soon be in school and you'll have a break.

I don't think getting a dog is such a good idea, because it will mostly create even more distraction for you and your husband.
If you want to take a breather, consider hiring a baby sister(or even a relative of yours) to take care of him for a while.
And if you do decide the best thing to do is get a dog... make sure the dog is small, makes small messes, and stay small when it grows up. (emphasis on small since you have a 5 year old.)
well... thats just my advice.

No - dogs are a lot of work time, and money.. put him in a play group with other children his age. Or put him in a art program or a day camp to get him out of the house and entertain his mind. You can't expect a five year old will entertain themselves all the time.
good Luck

Your child is only 5..its a time of learning & exporing, so course they will always ask questions & drives you insane, but thats what they do...
Before getting a dog you need to carefully consider whether you have time to care for that dog (eg. takes it for walks). A dog is like a child, its need love & effection as well as attention, furthermore a dog is for life, its a companion, bestfriend, mate, buddy.....its not a good idea to get a dog just to keep your child occupy while attend to your personal affairs......having a child is a full time job....yes I understand to need time alone....but getting a dog is not a short term answer.

I think you're better off buying a TV, some kid related DVD's, video games, or other highly interactive activities. Getting a dog is just going to add more responsibility onto you (feeding, walking, etc.) and then you're going to have the child and the dog to distract you!

well, you can listen to these experts, who has the television raising their kids for them, or you can get your child a dog to play with. it also teaches the little guy about taking care of HIS dog. also the dog is an alarm for you. i had a 125 lb. german shepard for my two boys, and no one dared come in our yard. get him a puppy to grow with him. border collie is great, and keep its hair cut short, no hair problems.
