Most of the dreams I remember are rather mundane, dealing with day to day events. But this one dream I had a few weeks ago was really different. First off, it was a dream within a dream. An occurrence I can’t remember ever having before.

I was dreaming that I was dreaming about a young woman I met at a book store and we seemed to hit it off pretty well. There was the typical flirting and all that. Then I woke from the dream within the dream and was dreaming that I happened to drive by and stop at a book store and the same young woman I had just dreamed about was in the store. When I told her that I have already met her in a dream I had a few hours before, instead of being receptive and friendly she backed away as if I were some kind of a nut and left the book store.

And I haven’t a clue as to how to interpret this dream. You want to give it a shot?

Please be sincere.

I'm pretty sure that it was not a dream transference device where the girl represented me. First, I can't imagine myself ever as a woman, or even ever subconsciencely transferring my gender. Second, there have been a number of times where I have met and became friends with women that I've met at book stores or art galleries or museums in real life, so such an occurrence isn’t unusual. And I'm still not sure what the dream was trying to tell me. But perhaps it has to do with a wish fulfillment (a new woman in my life or whatever?) and my fears that the wish either won't come true or is doomed.

I'll give it a shot - armchair interpretation if you will....

First of all dreams about dreaming are rare - but do occur (at least to me). Because dreams are a manifestation of thoughts and input into our subconscious, it is something your brain is trying to sort out....

Your dream is a manifestation of two possible outcomes.

Your heart is wishing for a positive outcome to something that might be coming up - a meeting that will change your life, a person who you would like to get to know better. The fact that in your dream (within a dream) has such a positive outcome, you feel confident and relaxed and content with the reaction you get from the situation.

However, you then "wake up" and begin to dream that you are passing by the same place - going through the same motions... yet your brain is showing the true fear that you have that it will NOT be successful... that you will be rejected, turned down, or looked upon negatively.

It is merely your subconscious playing out two possible outcomes... you truly want this thing to be a positive experience (whatever it is that is coming up in your life)... but your fears are that you will be rejected and thought of as crazy.

It sounds like you are struggling with thoughts of a change in your life... you WANT it to be a positive change... but you are really afraid that you will fail.

This is a good thing! It allows you to face that fear (of rejection, being thought of as a "nut") and figure out what to do to counteract those reactions when they occur.

Wow. Talk about fun! I can hardly wait! Of course, I know, that you know, that the young woman in the dream within a dream, in both instances, (first positive, second negative), was YOU. There's a good start! I'm going to step back now, so I can come back & be a jerk & edit about "universal symbols" & websites & dictionaries &........You have fun, too!

According to Dreamcrowd:

To dream that you are dreaming, signifies your emotional state. You are excessively worried and fearful about a situation or circumstance that you are going through.

To see a female in your dream, represents nurturance, passivity, caring nature, and love. It refers to your own female aspects or may also represent your mother. Alternatively, it may indicate temptation and guilt. If you know the female, then it may symbolize the concerns and feelings you have about her. To see an old woman in your dream, indicates aging and growing old. To see a group of women talking in your dream, refers to some gossip. To see a pregnant women in your dream, symbolizes abundant wealth. See also: Woman.

If I were to guess at a meaning, it would be that you feel quite comfortable with some accurate insights that aren't widely accepted. The fact that the setting was a bookstore indicates that like minds even have a hard time grasping some concepts.
