I work at a vet clinic, and the veterinarian I work for charges $19.00 for a nail trim, PLUS $26.00 for a technician consultation. That means someone has to pay $45.00 to walk in and get their dog's nails trimmed. I think this is absolutely insane, and outrageous. I have talked to my boss about this before, but she refuses to change the price. Now, when people ask me to trim their dog's toe nails, I warn them of the price, and show them how to do it themselves instead. If they can't do it themselves, I tell them to go to the groomer next door where it is only $6.00.

Do you know how much your vet charges for a toe nail trim? And do you think my vet is charging way too much?

I actually am looking for another job now because I don't agree with her outrageous high prices. I feel that she is more interested in money than anything, as you can see by her price of $45 for a nail trim...

I do them myself, but I send my friends to the groomer. They only charge $5.00 (for nails only) and it's a high end shop! All the best;~)

Try a nail grinder a little at a time if you really don't have any money. However, stand up to your friend. They probably don't want to take the dog to a groomers to get the nails trimmed because they think it's going to be the same price as a human manicure probably. You can get one dogs nail trimmed cheaper than a large pizza at pizza hut! It usually runs between 8 and 12 dollars depending on where you are located. It's worth it. Then just buy a nail grinder to trim them up so you don't have to worry about the pinching of the nails and possibly clipping the nail too deep to keep up.

I just paid $43 at petsmart for my dog to get washed, a haircut, AND a nail trimming. So she is definitely charging too much. I agree, look for another place to work, she's being very inconsiderate. Don't change the price, you might get in trouble for doing that without authorization from the vet. Just refer the customers to go next door.

I'm a dog groomer, I charge 5.00 for nail trim 'only'.

However, it is included in the price if they are having a full groom. Prices start at 32.00 for full groom. That includes bath, anal glands, ears cleaned and plucked, toenail trim, coat rush out, and the haircut.

The vet across the street charges 12.00 for toenail trim.
I'm in south Ga.

45.00 is rediculous. Sounds to me like they dont want to be bothered by it...maybe they are trying to discourage such an inconvenience for their time? Who knows. I'm curious to know how many people actually pay for that service, or do they say never mind and leave?

My vet charges $8 for nail clipping.
What yours charges, it's outraged!!
I do all the dogs' clipping myself, but I can see when an elderly person would need help, or when a dog puts up a fight to get them clipped, and need for the vet or vet tech to do it, but not at that price!
I had some dogs that they have to be sedated in order to clip their nails, IMO that's the only exception for charging that much

I live in an affluent Chicago suburb and my vet charges $16 to trim my dog's nails. There is no way I'd pay $45!

That is absolutely outrageous! I pay $16.50 for my dog to have his nails trimmed at the Vet's office. There is no, nor should there be, a consultation fee. It sounds as though she's a greedy, money hungry person and that's not fair to her clients. I wouldn't work for her if she trimmed my dogs nails for free and buffed them smooth to boot!

Here in South Louisiana my vet charges $5 for nail clippings. I think that $19 is high priced.

Some do it for free. Petco charges $10 for nail trim. They have a package for 19.99 for nail trim, teeth cleaning and a brush out.

Its free. If you have other things getting done. Petsmart did my dogs nails for free and I just stopped in while buying food.
It takes them less than a minute. The most I have ever heard of charging is $10, and thats for walk ins.
