I have a good offer from a good company that I would like to work for, but have several other interviews for positions that are higher ranked and pay better. I have to give an answer before knowing how the other options work out. Is a bird in the hand better than two in the bush?

It totally depends on your current experience level and position you are applying. In a word, if you are short in supply, then you got the power of the negotiation. If you are fairly new to the position and do not have a lot of experience in the field, I would say take the first offer and get some experience first. Experience is pretty much everything in the job market. Even McDonald's prefers an experienced over an newbie.

If the other jobs fell through would you be prepared to accept this position??

If so, accept the job, you can always resign at a latter date if a better option presents itself.

If you turn this down and the other jobs fall through, you will be job less.
