The Atkins diet is a horrible diet. If you follow it stricktly you need to follow up with your primary doctor, the large amount of protein intake required can damage your kidneys, not to mention your cholesterol may go up. Plus do you really want to follow a diet that lets you eat all the eggs, bacon, and cheese that you want, when the creator of the diet died of a heart attack? If you want to loose weight, the most realistic, healthiest diet, that has a record of people who keep the weight off is Weight Watchers, and no you don't have to buy there food.

You gotta be reasonable. No, you can't eat bacon and eggs every hour and still expect to lose weight. However, you can eat these for every meal, but again, let's be reasonable. You want to improve your health while you lose weight, right? So don't look at bacon and eggs as if they ARE the diet. They are not. You have to make healthy meal decisions. When I began the inductionphase, for example, I had bacon and eggs that were scrambled in cheese and zuchini or asparagus pieces. For lunch I had a salad made with sliced turkey, romaine, cukes, tomatoes and jicama. Dinner was usually a piece of steak, chicken, or fish with turnip greens and mashed cauliflower. You see, choosing meat is the easy part. Just eat the meat that you like, avoid processed meats. Consume plenty of vegetables and for the time being avoid nuts and low carb fruit. When you move on to OWL then add low carb fruits and nuts. One thing you want to avoid is food burn-out. Don't eat one thing so much that it makes you puke...that doesn't make sense.

I must add that Dr. Atkins did not die of a heart attack. The man died from a fall in which he fractured his scull. The media lead us to believe that it was a heart attack. Seek first the truth. I have outstanding cholesterol levels ( total is 149 with outstanding ratios ) my glucose levels are great and I have been on Atkins for 4 years. It is a lifestyle for me.
