Aricept doesn't help, antidepresants aren't helping and she is very paranoid. I am working two days a week at home and she stays at my door making it difficult. she acuses me of stealing her things and thinks my dad has a girlfriend at the nursing home, he can't even walk and is in diapers. I am going through hell keeping her car from her. She remembers in detail things from 20 yrs ago, but can't remember what day it is, even with a large atomic clock on the table. She would die in a nursing home. I am at my wits end, this has been going on over 3 yrs, ever since my brother died. I REALLY NEED HELP. I can't bring myself to place her, but I am the only family member to help and have to work also.

Ask your doctor about the latest medicine. It seems doctors have been discovering some new medicine which slows the process.

Also, are you sure you have AZ? Sometimes, we think we have it just because we are a little more forgetful in older age.

First see a Dr and get an accurate diagnosis.

Medications such as Aricept can delay and in some cases reverse the progress of symptoms of this disease.

Good diet, regular exercise, exercising the brain all help delay progress of the disease.

Set up a support network early, including appointing a power of atorney BEFORE you loose the capacity to do so! Your Dr is a good person to witness these forms in case they ever face a legal chalenge as to your capacity to sign.

Start keeping a diary and schedule to help you remember things, even to the point of scheduling waking up, dressing, going to bed etc.

DO NOT try to hide the symptoms from those who care for you as they need to be able to step in before you become a safety risk to yourself and others.

Aricept has been known to work quite well. Get close to your family. Everybody needs support.

Try to consider taking Nikken's EPADHA before its too late as the mg level is different and it has helped quite a no of people to regain their memory after taking for some time.
