i wouldnt worry about it, because, yes she's growing. But it would help to buy healthy foods, just because it won't be great for your daughter's self esteem if she think's that she's fat. Just do ur best to make healthy meals, but dont worry about it too much, because its most likely just a stage.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's normal. I was a bit chubby as a kid, but not really overweight. I weighed 145-150 lbs in high school. Now, at 28, I'm 5' 11'' and 138 lbs. I gave up meat about 12 years and I have always been pretty active. I think my diet had a lot to do with it, but I don't think you need to change the way your daughter eats. Just encourage her to be active and involved in sports/activities. Being a little chubby is normal and it's not the end of the world, even though it may feel like it to an 11 year old!

It's not normal for anyone to be "chubby" unless they're under 2 yrs old.
If you feel her weight is an issue, you need to talk to her doctor about proper nutrition and physical activity. Let her doctor determine whether her weight is a problem or not. Better to teach her good, healthy habits now rather than ler her fall into the all too common battle of weight-related health issues later in life.
Girls these days are held up to such rediculous standards at such an early age. We girls are made to feel like we should be bone thin and 6 feet tall to be worth anything in life. Whatever you do, don't make her feel like her weight is what determines her place in life. No matter what her size, small, medium or large, concentrate more on her character development.

No...most 11 year olds who are eating properly and getting enough exercise arent chubby. Gaining weight here are there as hormones are adjusting can cause some weight gain, but wouldnt cause chubbiness. You might want to start watching what she is eating and make sure shes getting enough exercise. If you can afford it, try talking to a dietician and personal trainer who has experience with teenagers. If she is eating and getting good exercise I would talk to her Dr about it, as it could be a symptom of an underlying medical problem. If exercise is needed in her lifestyle, offer to exercise with her everyday or every other day. Whether its going for a walk or swimming or even joining a local health club that allows 11 year olds with supervision to work out....it would definitely be beneficial.

after reading other peoples answers, i would have to agree with some and disagree with others. you are asking if it is normal for a pre-teen to be chubby. what is your definition of normal? alot of things can influence a weight gain at that age, including diet, amount of exercise/activity, genetics, menstural timing. not all people get chubby prior to a growth spurt. not all girls gain weight prior to their first period. mainly you should talk to the doctor if you are worried. maybe she won't be a size 3 girl when she is older. she could possibly be "big boned" and will never reach that stage. If you believe it is the activities and diet, then why don't you change the families eating habit as well as get her out with you and have some "fun" by taking walks occasionally or playing a sport in the yard. I would not tell her she is "fat" because at that age, she could get very emotional and take it personally which could lead to a very low self-esteem and etc.

No, an 11 year-old should not be chubby. I'm guessing she eats too many sweets and other junk food, drinks too much soda, and spends way too much time in front of the TV. After about 2-3 years old, a child should be getting enough exercise from normal play that they are basically thin. Obviously body shapes are going to vary, but but chubby is not a natural state for anyone but babies.

I think that would depend on how chubby? And also what sort of diet your daughter has? Kids do tend to get a bit on the poddgy side just before they have a growth spurt and go up in height. Just watch that she is eating healthy and she should be fine.

She isn't a teen yet, so at the current stage, it's perfectly fine. Once she starts growing, all of that weight will be gone. Just make that she doesn't overdose herself with food; that would still make her a bit chubby even as she starts hitting her growth spurt.

its not necessarily normal as in everyone goes through a fat stage, but its not abnormal either.
Both my brother and I where a bit on the chubby, but small, side him when he was in 4th and 5th grade (so around age 11) and me in 6th grade.
now we are both pretty fit (I have a six pack and hes not too shabby either lol)
so if I where you I wouldn't worry and i would get my kid involved in some sort of cardio workout like tennis or basketball or well...any sport really lol plus group sports help build character :D

Yes...yes yes!!
She should grow out of it by the time she is 12 or 13. My daughter was that way. At 11 she puffed up. She slimmed back down no problem. I think it's was the surge of hormones getting ready for her period to start.

Yes, usually girls around the ages of 10-14 will be a bit chubby because they are growing. Especially if she's about to get her period.
