it is called a rating, and is CTI. Your ASVAB score must be high enough to qualify you to take the DLAB. you must score at least a 100 on the DLAB to qualify for CTI. But in reality, you really need above that, because the Navy only wants people who qualify for Cat 4 languages.. Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, etc.

First off, in the Navy its a "rate", not an "MOS" secondly, you need to score around a sixty and the take the Defense Language Aptitude Test. On that test you'll need to score at least an eighty to take a language such as Spanish, and a score over one hundred for a language like Arabic. See that languages are broken down into five categories (also called "cats" for short) and the higher you score, the higher level of cat you can take with Spanish being a cat 1 and Arabic being a cat 5 and everything in between. Then you'll go to Monterey, California to train in your language to become a CTI (Cryptologist Translator Interpretive) which what the Navy calls its translators.

Your asvab or really AFQT score, has nothing to do with what MOS's you quailfy for.

That score is only used to determine if you are allowed to enlist.

The sub scores taken from the asvab test, are what are used to determine what jobs you qualify for.

Linguist in the Navy require a minimium DLAT score of 100 along with an asvab sub score of VE+MK+GS=162

it doesnt matter what you score on the asvab, they're complicated. dont get me wrong they're WICKED easy tests but they shoot back whats called a GT score, this is basically a low rent version of an IQ score, that determines alot of what you can do. Just do the best you can. the tests are cake...trust me
