First of all, try this IRS link to see what it says about your refund:

https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

It should give you a mailing date or deposit date if you were going to get a direct deposit, or if your refund was delayed it will have some kind of a code there and if that's the case, it may take longer to process than it would normally. Amended returns take several weeks longer to process than a regular return would too.

If the refund site does not show anything significant about the status of your refund, then check the site again in a week when they update the info, or just call the IRS back in a week or two and maybe they will be able to give you some more info then. It's hard to wait for a refund, but sometimes you have to wait a few extra weeks and there is nothing you can do about it. Sorry!

If you don't get refund within 28 days of filing of your return then you should try to trace it. Go to www.irs.gov and on the Main page click the link "Where's my refund?"
On the page that appears, click "Where's my refund?" You will need your social security number, filing status and exact amount of refund.

Six to eight weeks is pretty standard, assuming that nothing on your return is being questioned.
