I have plenty of suits of various colors, just nothing black. Should I buy/rent a black suit or tux for the occasion?

yes just buy a black suit for the occasion because you might need black for something else but a tux is too much!!

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. YOU WILL NEVER NEED TO WEAR A COAT AND TIE OR SUIT, unless you want to.

Most 7-day cruises have two formal nights when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit (any color is fine) and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).

Any smart casual dark suit would do. You can even try calling the agent ask if the cruise has suit / tux for rent. You may not want to bring too much formal clothings to a tropical cruise holiday anyway.

When we cruised Royal Caribbean, we only saw a very few men in tuxedos at dinner, and they looked a little conspicuous. A dark suit might be preferable, but as long as you are in any suit for the formal dinner, I personally think you would look fine and feel comfortable. Remember, there are also scheduled casual dinners. Wear a collared shirt. Have fun! And plan to gain five pounds.

Just got back the day before yesterday...Many of the guys wear just a real nice sport jacket, it doesn't have to be black...And No I wouldn't suggest you buy or rent a Tux because I didn't see anyone wearing them.......
Have a great time....

any suit will be fine. navy would be perfect.

not that many people actually wear the tux anyway .. 1/3 ? if that . most guys wear a suit / tie. if you don't want to wear that , sit at a table for 2 or tell your tablemates that your luggage was lost. LOL. Have a great time sailing!

Hi, I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise and I pre-paid also for tipping and I didn't have to pay the extra 15% on the drinks that I bought. I hope that this helps---Have fun!

I do enjoy putting on long skirts occasionally. They may be actually more comfortable than Jeans and also not as hot to wear.
