There are going to be quite a few children at my wedding, and I absolutly adore all of them, so I'd like to be able to involve them as much as possible, and give them an atmosphere that they can enjoy too. Suggestions??? I'm thinking of doing a pinate and limbo at the reception, and really that's fun for eveybody anyway.
Thanks!

I love the pinata & limbo idea! My wedding will also have lots of children in attendance, and I am considering setting up a "kid station" for them at the reception. You will need to tailor the crafts/games/toys for the age of the children but you could have coloring books, puzzles, bubbles, or any other cheap & fun toys from somewhere like Party City. If the location is outdoors you could see if the kids could play with sidewalk chalk. Then you could have boxes of Animal Crackers & chocolate milk for them to snack on. Just think of it from a kids' perspective & make it fun for them! Good luck!

Have you been to a bar/bat mitzvah? If you don't know what it is, it is a 13th birthday of a Jewish boy/girl (bar mitzvah is for boy and bat mitzvah is for girl). I saw quite a few of them and here is how it goes. Lets say you have the wedding reception at a hall. There is usually a foyer that you can have the guests gather around to enjoy hand pass and stationed hors d' oeuvres. Lets say it starts at 6PM. At 6PM, the adults stay in the foyer and the kids go into the ballroom. You have a DJ who is good with kids. The DJ will invite the kids to play some games inside the ballroom while the adults enjoy the reception in the foyer. Lets say you give 1 hour for that. At 7PM you can let the adults into the ballroom and be seated. About 7:15PM you make your grand entrance, bride & groom and the entourages. After the grand entrance you have a blessing, serve salad, do a toast, serve main entree, first dance (father of the bride/bride, mother of the groom/groom, and then bride/groom). After that you can incorporate some games that involve kids and adults. You don't want any games that involves too much activities because the guests will be dressed up. Ask the DJ to give ideas. It will be hard if you just tell the guests to join the activities. Most of them (adults) will be reluctant to join. A DJ is the best option. Have fun!

If you are going to have a lot of children you may want to see if your reception site has a smaller room for the children. Hire a babysitter to play games and hit the pinata with. That way the adults can have some fun and relax.

This is your day not a day to be entertaining kids. It's nice that you are considering your younger guests, but you also want to make sure the adults have a nice time including you. Don't turn it into a childs birthday party.

Good luck!

At our wedding we had a video game room. This was good for kids as well as some of the older adult guys too! Haha! This was also a room that they could run around in and not break anything and just have fun. We also played many fun songs that kids and adults both can dance to, like The Hokey Pokey, the chicken dance, cha cha slide, etc.

I've also seen weddings where they've had a "candy bar." This is a table full of different canisters and containers of candies. You could provide little decorative bags where kids can make their own goody bags of treats.

Hi there! I actually got this idea from a DJ's website! They suggested that if you have children attending your reception, that it is a fun idea to have a candy or teddy bear toss. The kids are asked out onto the dance floor and a teddy bear is tossed (instead of a bouquet) and the child who catches it receives a pre-made basket of goodies. They also suggest to have consolation prizes for the remainder of the children like little goodie bags filled with candy!

Have fun! :)

Keeping children occupied can be quite a challenge. Make the older children feel important by giving them "jobs" to perform. Coloring books or sticker books will keep younger kids happy for a while. The pinata sounds like fun.

I really like the idea of the pinata! At my wedding, we had a do-it-yourself craft guest book with polaroid camera, film, scissors, stickers, ribbon, gluesticks, sharpies, and many other craft supplies. People LOVED it and kids definitely got a kick out of it. It gave them something to do, an outlet for creativity, and wasn't too messy because I avoided anything that required wet glue or paints or anything like that. I highly recommend it!

when I got married we done it at a park. While we were having our wedding the small kids were playing on the swings. Is there a park around for you to have your reception at? If so go with that. If not go with your ideal I think they will like it. And CONGRATS on the wedding.
