I like the woodsy themed and ice themed December/winter weddings better than Christmas red and green. Last year I shot one of the prettiest ones ever. The bridesmaids were in a royal blue, the bride in winter white with a fur shrug, and the reception was twiggy wreaths, candles, and centerpieces with "ice" covered twigs. Blue table cloths with flake confetti. Really classic looking.
The good thing is most venues, including churches, are decorated for the season. Be sure to check out the decorations they already have in place before you decide on the venue. They may have predominately mauve and pink, when you want to use red and green.
I think giving antique ornaments as favors would be neat. (Of course, I collect old ornaments, so naturally I would like them!) You could hang them on a tree with a ribbon in your color, and announce for each guest to take one as they leave. You can buy them on eBay very reasonably priced.
Christmas weddings are a favorite of mine photographically speaking. Your pictures should be fabulous! Good luck!

Although I'm Jewish, I LOVE the idea of a Christmas wedding! I think you can do whatever you want and play up the Christmas theme any way you want to, but if you're not as into the red and green thing, you can lean more towards the winter thing. With a few hints about Christmas thrown in, everyone will get what you're driving at. There are lots and lots of wedding books with winter wedding theme ideas. Snowflakes, blue and white decorations, silver glitter, a horse and carriage to take you to and from the ceremony, serving warm punch (especially if it's cold), and candy canes are just some of the ideas I can think of right now. I say go with it and check out the books for ideas!

This should be an easy enough "theme" I mean snow, presents, Christmas tree.. The centerpieces could be pointsetta's in a pretty container ( I think the white ones are pretty but, you could mix it up)... You could even have a ticket or Christmas card under someones chair and they can take the centerpiece home !
You could do something for charity.. In the spirit of giving.. Maybe have an "angel" tree where your guest bring mittens, hat, scarf etc.. and it gets donated to charity...Or a wrapped *new toy for Toys for Tots.. Just bring the "gifts' to a registered charity or call and see how you would go about such a donation.
For favor's why not a personalized Christmas ornament? You can either make them yourselves with glitter and a paint pen/markers or order them from a catalog with your name/wedding date/year... It would be a nice keepsake. Or some Christmas cookies- Sugar cookies w/ your name/date Play some fun Christmas music or maybe have some Christmas carolers (sp).... sing at the reception or during cocktail hour....
I hope I've helped somewhat.. good luck

I got married 3 days after Christmas and went with the Christmas theme. Well, the color scheme at least. We did hunter green, burgandy, and gold as our colors. The bridesmaids had hunter green velvet dresses and carried ivory muffs with a red rose trimmed in gold glitter (fake from AC Moore). The groomsmen had hunter green snowflake vests with their tuxes.
The church was already decorated for the holiday, so we didn't have to do anything. At the reception site, we had them decorate the tables in greenery, rather than tulle. It looked nice, without going over the top. Our favors were Christmas ornaments with the guest's name handwritten on it.
I had a red rose cascade bouquet, the boys had red rose boutineers, and the mom's had stargazer lily purse flowers.
We did give the kids at the wedding coloring books with crayons at the reception. The coloring books did have a Christmas theme, but it was good for them to have something to do.
I don't think people came to my wedding and thought "wow, another Christmas party.' I think you can use the holiday season to enhance what you want to do and honestly, it helped cut my flower bill tremendously. My entire flower bill was $200. That was nice.
Good luck! Have a great wedding!

WE got married the day after Christmas and had a nice Christmas theme. WE had red poinsettas everywhere, a Christmas tree set up at the church and the resepction. WE had our bridesmaids carry candles with greenery around the bases. Our bridesmaids wore dark green velvet dresses. IF you are looking for silly0ish ideas I have none but we did have a nice Christmas theme and there were some of my favorite parts. IF you have a lot of kids there, maybe invite a Santa to com evisist and hand out party favors or dance or whatever for a while.

I always think Christmas/Winter themed weddings are so romantic ;) If I were having one I might use candy canes to attach a name/table number to for each person and hang them onto a small Christmas tree! I think that ornaments would be a great favor for your guests to take home. You could even buy them in bulk and personalize them yourselves with paint pens (with your names and wedding date). Icicle lights would look beautiful strung up along the headtable and ceiling. How lovely would it be to arrive in a one-horse open sleigh!! lol... it sounds like you'll have a great time planning, hopefully some of my suggestions will give you all ideas! Congratulations :)

First of all, Congrats!! I got married December 17th, and my colors were navy, silver and white. For decorations in the church we had white and red poinsettas, and red roses and white stephanotis. It was really pretty, b/c the little flower girl had a cream and red dress. As for the reception, our theme was snowflakes, so we had clear, flat vases filled with water, and put floating candles (in the shape of snowflakes) in the water, along with some blue, clear rocks and a little snowflake confetti around the table. (Since we had our reception at a country club, they already had a Christmas tree up and several other decorations). For favors, we got little blue and silver ornaments in the shape of bells, and we created a poem to go with them. It was really a lot of fun, there's so much you can do with a winter wedding!

My sister did that, but it wasnt over the top it was elegant. We all carried red roses. Bridesmaids in hunter greeen velvet dresses. Reception had tiny trees with little white lights for centrepieces (use the battery-operated ones), and the favors were candy in little boxes which were placed under the tree. It was cool, as you walked in, all these little trees with white lights were shining. Thats all she had to do because the church had poinsettas, and the reception hotel had a huge tree and wreaths all around the hotel. So ask your places how they usually decorate for Christmas.

A wedding i went to last year we had table favors made from gingerbread in the shapes of hearts with names on them in icing and a ribbon so you could hang it from the Christmas tree, maybe you could have them in the shape of stockings with the guests names on you can also save on name places around the table, two birds one stone. May be have some mistletoe decorating the top table, cake and cake table. Design table plan with Holly and ivy. Good luck, planning a wedding is so much fun
