I may have cheated my kids by not having them at a young age ... my older kids had time with their grandparents, but my youngest son hasn't gotten to enjoy them. My mom died last year, and my dad is senile and bad-tempered.

My son is doted on by his dad's mother, but she lives in Philadelphia, and speaks only Spanish. Last month Jon got to meet his great-grandmother in Puerto Rico, a real treat for both of them. She was 94 years old. She died last Thursday, so he is lucky to have had the chance to meet her.

My own grandparents were fairly young when I was a kid, and I have wonderful, lasting memories of them from my childhood. I guess I was the lucky one, too.

I didn't have my grandparents in my life and i feel so cheated.. I will never know that love and care and just knowledge of knowing them. To late for me but for my kids they grew up with their grandparents and they loved them and I made sure that they knew both sides. It is wonderful. It is the most important part of a child's life.
Cheated is UN understatement.. I still feel sad when i think about it..

My childeren have great relationships with their grandparents, as did I when I was growing up! I ADORED my "Nana"! She was the one person whose opinion of me mattered! I feel sad that my children never got to meet her. I do share my stories of her and her unconditional love, with them, so they know what a wonderful person she was. But they do have my parents and my in-laws... My parents helped me raise my oldest son, and he is the better for it! And it's not just having a relationship with the grandparents, but the fact that we are a family of 8 kids, so they have many cousins and aunts and uncles. On my husbands side, they are a family of 6 kids so there are more cousins on that side! It's truly wonderful when we can all get together!

MY children have a great relationship with my parents .I am very family orientated and was raised with alot of love and the belief that family come first.Depending on the grandparent if they want their grandchildren in their lives i think its the harshest thing to a child that's denied of any family member
