I was there for the night race when they were filing Talledega Nights. I had to buy long sleeved t-shirts at the track as i was unprepared for the quick cool down of the evening. We sat in the newer seats high up in the nosebleed section..... great view of the whole track (but not if you have problems with heights). Getting in and out wasn't too bad compared to some tracks, just watch out for some of the crazy drivers.
Make sure you have walking shoes on, bring a stocked cooler, visit the souvenir trailers and as always scanners or headsets are nice. Pre-race activities are an added bonus.

Check with the rules on what you can take in. Expect to walk a couple of miles. I would take earplugs too.(Unless you enjoy being deaf for a week, which isnt that bad)
You will have a blast, make sure to get as close as you can for a few laps. Watching the cars race off the corner near the fence is a thing of beauty.
Have fun and congrats! I'm goin to Martinsville, I cant wait either.

One absolutely fantastic time! I hope the Outlaws are there for that weekend too on the dirt oval. Like most tracks over a mile, the higher you sit, the better the view. Don't forget your hearing protection and leave time to visit at least some of the race team shops while you are there. The program cover will probably be designed by Sam Bass, who has a gallery close-by. He will normally be in the gallery and autographing the covers for people who bring them in. I'll leave out things like dinner at Hooters, but that is always one possibility.
This is the BEST track for getting in and getting out I have been to.

my friend used to go all the time and go get autograph, what she has always told me you want to get to the track as early as possible and just walk around and you see all kinds of people, and the it you get lucky the drivers, also she said you should tape it at home because it is soooooooo different being at the track and watching then is it at home, she said you will be amazed at what you see at the track, and then come home and watch it and see what you did not see, it will be a good and fun experiment for you. the only thing i can tell you to watch for is fights and a drunks, she said that they are everywhere and also their are all kinds of vendor set up all over that you can by nascar stuff, (she used to be one) so just go and have fun GO DALE JR. You should expect a great race. I go every year in may for the 600, and we have a great time. Bring lots of food and drink, you can bring in a cooler no larger than 14 in. cube. Have a great time.

Expect to see one drunk redneck who has to ruin it for everyone else. I haven't been to a race out there yet where there wasn't at least one guy being escorted out by the police. Hopefully you'll get lucky and miss out on this.
