You can mix your breakfast cereal with hay if you like, but it won't improve your health.

I say that you have control over your mind, and what flows into it. If you like music that's short on faith and talent, turn on the radio. If you want music by musicians of faith, don't expect quality.
Honestly, I listen to some stuff that can be considered extremely sacrilegious, and I'm a more connected Christian than all the people I know who listen to Christian music. If god has put it on our heart to steer away from the other music, do that. If you feel that your faith remains strong with secular music, remain in it. It's about a personal relationship with Christ. Pray, possibly with another believer, for guidance on it.

2 Corinthians 3: 17
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
The liberty spoken of here, is freedom from legalism (salvation by law). You may listen to any type of music you want to as long as the lyrics and musical arrangements are not dishonoring to the Spirit of God.
Songs are some what hypnotic. They often put you in certain moods or cause you to recall events in your life at the time the song came out etc. You have to be really careful of that kind of music.
Songs that lessen the dignity and worth of human beings are dishonoring to God, who made man in His image.
Bishop Paul S. Morton sings a song called "Let It Rain" during which he yells out like Prince (the artist formerly known as "The Symbol"). I always feel that if I want to listen to Prince, I would get his CD and listen to it.

I assume you are not a Christian as you say "all you Christians" so you can listen to any thing you want to. As far as I am concerned mixing Satans music with Christian lyrics does not make it acceptable. I have heard a few of these so called Christian Rock bands and my observation was , looks like Satan, acts like Satan, sounds like Satan.... must be of Satan. I dont approve of mixing the worlds music with God's music. The advent of a bass system that does CPR on you in Church is not my idea of praise and worship. But I will say that I will not judge those of you who listen to it. It is just not for me. I am an old fashioned type of guy. I like the old Hymns and old style Black Gospel and Country/Blue Grass Gospel . I really hope you will Come to Christ no matter what kind of music you listen to. Come to Christ

You should take a closer look at some of U2's songs, and read this interview with Bono, if you're so sure they're a secular band:
http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/interviews/2005/bono-0805.html
As you can see, it's not so cut and dried. U2 is an excellent example of why listening to only "Christian" music is ludicrous.

I listen to all kinds including country and they can get pretty graphic sometimes. however I avoid the graphic lyrics. The Bible says we should be in the world but not of it. Sure listen to secular songs. It is the message that really matters. My theory is would I play it if Jesus were in the car with me, cause actually he is.

There are Christians that reject other Christians. There is division in that some Christians who are baptized are not considered equals. The Bible speaks of this problem of people believing some things are permissible, and others don't. It says do not let those who eat meat look down on those who only eat vegetables because of a tender conscience. It is the same with music. If there are those who believe all types of music is acceptable, they should not judge those who believe differently. All Christians belong to God and are made acceptable to him in baptism because they are baptized into Jesus' death in the tomb and into his righteousness in resurrection and have no righteousness of their own doing. All are one in Christ and are given his righteousness as a gift. It is better to rely on that gift than one's own righteousness.

What's wrong with secular music (as long as the lyrics are not immoral)? In fact, many of those "secular artists" are also Christians like you and I...plus, I don't know about you, but God has spoken to me through many "secular" songs...

As long as the music allows the spirit of the Lord (The Holy Ghost) to remain with you, it is fine! I listen to classical, country, opera, choir, et cetera...of course, in each category, there are some songs which are bad but there's good music in almost every category...
