It seems that nearly every member of Christendom that I have met knows little about the Bible. Aside from what your parents and pastor have told you, most of you are entirely ignorant. Does this bother you? Or do you leave the work of dictating the scriptures in the hands of others so that you can relax and believe as you are told.

Hi, r r
Should I take this to mean that all of the knowledge of the truth was held by the apostles and that all other christains must grope in blindness for centuries? I guess we should all burn our Bibles then.

This is why the bible states to study to show yourselves approved.

The modern day churcheninity (is that a word? it is now) want someone to study the bible for them, and then spoon it out in pablum form. Worse the pablum consists of a mixture of unlearned men, spewing the same ignorant teachings of their predecessors. The blind leading the blind. They are barely able to stomach milk, much less the meat of the Word.

A very sad commentary on the apostate building known as the church.

The true church consists of living stones, comprising a temple where Christ LIVES!

That's exactly the same for some athiests. Right or wrong they just go with what they feel and don't actually research it. Its the same with jews and muslims.
There are a lot of insightful knowledgeable christians. There are a lot of insightful knowledgeable athiests.
You could ask that question to any belief because all belief's have people who would fall into that catergory.

I don't know everything that is in the Bible, but I have studied it and its sources. I've also studied the history surrounding the events so I can have some background about the culture and times. My church doesn't preach. Every Sunday we have an Old Testament reading, a Psalm, a New Testament reading, and a Gospel reading. They are given to us so we can read and study them ahead of time. I do. Our priests have always based his or her sermon on one or more of the readings and frequently talks about the background of the story; however, we are encouraged to question and come up with our own interpretations.

It is sad that so many people who consider themselves Christian do not know what is there. It is the same for Muslims and the Qu'ran and Jews and the Taurat. It is sad that 40% of Americans think that Joan of Arc was the wife of Noah, bad educational system in some places. It is sad that we focus on the people of the religion and not the one who it is based on. Learn about Abraham, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad or whoever and then make your decision. I did it and chose Jesus because He gives me a hope for the future.

I read my Bible (in several translations) and study it nearly everyday. I teach Sunday School for adults who also ready their Bibles - they are far from ignorant of its contents. I would suppose, by your definition, the Christians that I know are atypical.

The comfort I have comes from knowing God's word, and seeing His works. Much of His word is committed to memory by many Christians - including me. I do relax - in the knowledge that God's word was written so that I can read and explore it's meaning.

What studies have you conducted that led you to your conclusions about "typical" Christians? I would not presume, because you seem to be quite mean spirited, that you are ignorant - although your statements do make you appear so.

The scriptures are precious to me - and reading them (for myself) and studying them is very enlightening. Um - maybe you'd like to give it a try?

God Bless.

I was told nothing during a low time in my life I took a few months to read the King James Bible, in its entirety, and was lead into my calling during those times of hardship. Can you truly say that you have taken the time to read the entire text and are capable of offering a fair opinion based on what you have read???????????????

Wow, what insight. I doubt that you know any Christians, and if you do, I'm sure that you have no idea of how much or little they really know or don't know. So why even come here to run that mouth like you do? Your own ignorance and stupidity escapes you, no doubt?

I was a typical Christian all my life and knew some of the bible but had never read it cover to cover nor studied it. I took what I was told about God, Jesus, etc., at face value. It wasn't until I had a bad experience in an evangelical church that I finally decided to learn about my religion, beginning with a thorough study of the bible. It wasn't soon after that, that I began to see the flaws . . . and once I had done over a year of extensive research and soul searching about my findings, I left the church and stopped believing in Jesus.

I would agree that many Christians are ignorant of the Bible,
But I don't know of one single atheist who really knows where he came from or where he is going.
