Absolutely not. Except for the part about collecting information on US citizens. There is no way the feds could do a background check on criminal illegals in 24 hours.

Hey FedUp. You're 100% correct. I will state that I am a fan of our president because I feel he makes decisions that he feels are right. That said, I've never agreed with the "Guest Worker Program". The laws will not be followed nor enforced. They should have arrested Elvira Arellano a lot sooner but someone drug their feet until it was time for a show. The facts are that illegals, from whatever country, will continue to break our laws until they're afraid to. We simply cannot afford anymore - we can't afford the ones here. We must start deporting. I realize we will not get all of them, this is just reality. However we should go after as many as possible and quit punishing Border Patrol agents for doing their job.
Additional: Recently I joked with a friend, who is originally from Mexico, and said that I was tired of the situation and that perhaps it was time for us (the U.S.) to take over Mexico. This friend is highly eduacated, has owned, run and sold successful businesses, and takes many trips to visit family in Mexico. That said, I was rather pleased with her response. She said that she thought it was actually a good idea and that the Mexican population would welcome it. The reason is that the U.S., although flawed (I realize we're not perfect), is a great country that is well run. Imagine fixing Mexico so that people actually want to stay there and being able to combine resources? Mexico has, among others, oil and a population that can contribute if given the tools. I believe that the seperation between the haves and have nots would be greatly reduced. Hmm, what would those crazies over at Mecha / Atzlan think of this?

No, they would not have been and the American people have got smart to it. How did we end up with millions in this country if the laws already on the books at been enforced. Our government was trying to sell us out once again.....thank god the tax payers have got smarter.
Your right on the money, they will still work over time to try and slip this amnesty bill through. When the fence goes up and its shoot to kill, then and only then will I believe something is being done.
Now that may sound radical, "shoot to kill" but that's exactly what would happen to us if we started invading Mexico. You can bet it would stop the invasion in one day.

The last 7 years? The federal government has not worked to enforce illegal immigrants for the last 30 years. They've hammered through at least two previous amnesty bills and what has that solved? Nothing. It's just easier than admitting our country is being invaded and the federal government is doing nothing about it.

they didn't enforce the ones they passed in 87 that was suppose to eliminate these same problems. they only increased and if that travesty they called new and improved had slipped by, they would not have enforced it either. congress passes laws but don't put in provisions to fiance it and enforce it. that bill would have cost millions and don't nothing but make things worse. keep watching when congress returns, i doubt they are thru as they will pull another dirty trick and try to pass some of the failed bill anyway. we shall see if i am right or wrong.

Absolutely not....every amnesty and about every law since the Reagan Amnesty has hardly ever been enforced...thats exactly why we have the problem we have now! Now, It's a case of trying to catch the horse AFTER it has been left out of the barn...

If the laws had been enforced there wouldn't have been a NEED for a mass amnesty in the first place.

Well, if they had been enforced to begin with we would not have the stupendous problem millions and millions of illegals in this country. I am with you, though, in thinking that the amnesty bill would still not have been passed. To reward criminal illegal behavior is ridiculous. These people have no rights, other than to be deported.

The only reason that they are enforcing current laws is because election year is around the corner and each party is going to use this issue to it's advantage.

President Reagan made few mistakes, but trusting Democrats to keep their word was one on them. Apart from this example, there was also the deal made with Democrats for a small increase in income tax rates in exchange for cutting $2 of spending for every $1 in new taxes. He signed the tax increase, but never got the spending cuts. Yet people still blame him for deficits.
