Could anyone help me find scholarship or grants? My mom makes to much money to qualify for anything in the FASFA, even some student loans. But she doesn't have enough money to help me with college. Since I'm not over 25, married, or a veteran I have to include her income. I live 3 hours away from her and am definitely no longer a dependent but I don't qualify for anything because I have to use her income. I’ve tried going through the schools financial aid department and they all tell me that I don’t qualify. If I can, I would like to find something I don’t have to pay back, any suggestions?

I'm in the same situation as my parents make too much money for me to qualify for much even though they aren't paying for my college. Luckily the state of Tennessee guarantees me some money from the Hope Lottery Scholarship.

You should qualify for at least an unsubsidized Stafford Loan (federal student loan) because income has no bearing on that.

If you filled out the FAFSA go to your school's homepage and look around for a form to apply for a Stafford loan. Try to get a subsidized loan first and if that doesn't work go for the unsubsidized.

• Subsidized Stafford Loans are only open to those who demonstrate financial need. The government will pay the interest on your loan while you are in school, during grace periods, and during any deferment periods.

• Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are available to all students regardless of your financial need. With this loan you are responsible for the interest that stacks up during your time in college. You can either pay the interest while you are in college or wait until you graduate (or dropout).

Also, check your school's homepage for scholarships (you won't have to pay these back) and apply for all of those you qualify for. Might want to check out FastWeb for some more scholarships as well.
