I wouldn't take pictures with anything else... Im not sure what your asking. An SLR means that you are looking thru the lens and seeing what the lens sees. Its like bringing yourself into the scene rather than looking at a distance as you do when you are relying on the lcd..

Its very important to know exactly when to push the shutter button to get the picture you want.. I have to be "in" the scene to do that properly. Also its important to see how the lens is focusing, to get shots that have to do with depth of field.

IF you bought an SLR you did the right thing. ..Hope this helps.

Having owned an SLR since July of 1971 I can't imagine not seeing what the lens sees. (Well actually I can because I do own a Twin Lens Reflex and a couple of nice rangefinder cameras). 99% of my photography is with the SLR though. I was once told to learn to keep both eyes open - one to focus with and one to watch for photo opportunities. Unfortunately I'm "left eyed" so I never really developed that ability.

Anyone serious about photography is probably going to be using an SLR.

For macro photography the SLR is invaluable.
