I ate very hot salty french fries a week ago and it burned and rubbed on the palate of my mouth to even where I had a blister. Now I have what appears to be a canker sore on the bony palate part next to my wisdom teeth (on the inside) and very swollen gums along the insides of my top teeth. It hurts to eat or brush my teeth or even to talk. I brush now a lot after every meal and use Listerine. I'm scared to floss though. How can I make this go away faster or at least not hurt?

Man what a drag. If you have burned it severly enough to cause a blister, you really did a number on it! The canker sore is caused by buggies that already live in the mouth, they just took advantage of the wound.

Careful with the listerine, it has alcohol in it. That won't help the tissue to heal faster. Warm salt water rinses will increase circulation, kill off buggies and speed healing.

Try to floss, its not gonna hurt anything although it might hurt because of the injuries.

There are some topical anesthetics you can get at the pharmacy. It just numbs the area for a little while. Sorry and good luck!

See a doctor. In the meantime, begin swishing ( about two minutes) about a teaspoon of straight hydrogen peroxide ( 2%) in your mouth twice a day. It's tasteless, and fights infections. Fever blsiters are caused by the herpes ( simplex) virus. You can treat the blisters, or sores, but you can't get rid of the virus, which will cause a break-out about anytime your immune system is compromised. The H2O2 is good for keeping your gums free of infection, so use it at least once a day, forever!

You can try rinsing with warm salt water a few times a day, and buying orabase b with benzocaine from the drug store to rub on the area. This will help to numb the pain and speed healing. I know it hurts, but it will run it's course in 3-10 days. Additionally, if your dentist is certified in lasers, he can run the laser over the area for a few minutes and this will also help. You won't have to be numb for this, and it causes no discomfort. We've done this at the office where I work, and my patients seem to have positive things to say about it.

Should probably use a non-alcohol based mouthwash, for starters. Avoid foods that could be irritating... for instance I think tomato sauce might be a bad idea. Eat healthy stuff in general. No junk food or soda pop or excessive salt. Stay hydrated. Don't eat abrasive foods. No Quisp. That's all I can think of.

this sounds like an abscess pocket and your dentist needs to evaluate this immediately. Good luck.

Avoid eating hard foods, and when you brush your teeth do it very soft, and it should all be over in three days max.
