Atheists and agnostics believe in evolution. Christians, Jews, and Muslims believe in creation. Who believes in the ancient astronaut theory?

Zacharia Citchin wrote a book called the 12th planet. (circa 1970's) In it he speaks of the Annunaki. An advanced race of humaniods who came from planet Nibiru. He says they came here 200k yrs ago and genetically altered the primative hominids of that era with their own DNA to create a race of intelligent slaves--Homo-sapiens--us. The Book of Genesis speaks of them as the Nephlim. Astronomy says that a dark star or large unseen planet is influencing Neptune and Uranus. Citchin says that he has translated the Summerian texts and found "proof" of this. He said that Sodom and Gammorah were destroyed by nuclear weapons! He speaks fo two Annunaki Bro's Enki and Enlil who were adversaries. One of them made Humans the bad one and the other felt sorry for us and helped us. Any credible info on this? Anyone who believes this? Thanks.

According to Sitchin's interpretation of Sumerian cosmology, there is a hypothetical planet which follows a long, elliptical orbit, reaching the inner solar system roughly every 3,600 years. This planet is called Nibiru (the planet associated with Marduk in Babylonian cosmology). Nibiru collided catastrophically with Tiamat, another hypothetical planet that was between Mars and Jupiter. The collision formed the planet Earth, the asteroid belt, and the comets. Tiamat, as outlined in the Enûma Elish, is a goddess. According to Sitchin, however, Tiamat may have been what we now know as Earth. When struck by one of planet Nibiru's moons, Tiamat split in two. On a second pass Nibiru itself struck the broken fragments and one half of Tiamat became the asteroid belt. The second half, struck again by one of Nibiru's moons, was pushed into a new orbit and became today's planet Earth.

According to Sitchin, Nibiru was the home of a technologically advanced human-like extraterrestrial race (called the Anunnaki in Sumerian myth) who were called the Nephilim in the Bible. He claims they first arrived on Earth probably 450,000 years ago, looking for minerals, especially gold, which they found and mined in Africa. These "gods" of the Anunnaki were the rank and file workers of the colonial expedition to earth from planet Nibiru. Sitchin believes the Anunnaki genetically engineered Homo sapiens as slave creatures to work their gold mines by crossing extraterrestrial genes with those of the Homo erectus. Sitchin claims ancient inscriptions report that human civilization in Sumer of Mesopotamia was set up under the guidance of these "gods", and human kingship was inaugurated to serve as an intermediary between the Anunnaki and mankind. Sitchin believes that fallout from nuclear weapons used during a war between factions of the extraterrestrials is the "evil wind" that destroy

In a recently published book, 2012: Appointment With Marduk, Turkish proponent Burak Eldem presented a new view suggesting an orbital period of 3,661 years for the planet Nibiru, and positing a "return date" in the year AD 2012. According to Eldem's theory, 3,661 is one-seventh of 25,627, which is the total time span of "Five World Ages" according to the Mayan Long Count Calendar. The last orbital passage of Marduk, he adds, was in 1649 BC and caused great catastrophes on earth, including the Thera eruption. Sitchin has recently put forth his own date in the year 2085 for the next passage of Nibiru, but the date most talked about is 2012, which marks the end of the Maya calendar.

Sitchin has also claimed that certain unusual human genes discovered in 2001 were not the result of horizontal gene transfer from bacteria as concluded by geneticists, but were instead inserted into the human genome by aliens.

Jeez,
What a bunch of juveniles you kids are! You need to grow up. The question asked whether anyone believes in the Ancient Astronaut theory. To this question, Evolution and creation ARE IRRELEVANT!!! I wish there was a 30 and over part to this forum!!! What a bunch of spoiled little brats. Only one answer seems to even come close to any answer. Do you children really think this shows intelligence? What are your teachers teaching you these days?

You initial statements are incorrect. You cannot compare the theory of evolution, a scientifically valid theory (not a belief system), with religious creation mythologies, no matter where they come from.

Everything that Sitchin hypothesised is based hugely on fictional accounts of Earth's past, not on solid evidence or even circumstantial evidence. There's about as much credulance there as in Terry Pratchett's Discworld - it's fiction but Sitchin took it a bit too far.

As for your rant of how juvenile people here are, this is a public board, if you don't want people of all ages answering go to another forum. You're just annoyed because nobody shares your apparent beliefs.

Oh yes... the elusive Lizardmen. Supposedly the Queen of England, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush are all Annunaki, bent on creating a new world order. They're shape shifters and infiltrate many high positions of society. There's a lot of info on this online and some in the book "Rule By Secrecy".

I mean... this theory could possibly explain many of the things that evolution has not been able to explain. While it's still a theory, it's quite interesting. It might just be a different form of the age old dichotomy of good and evil.

It absolutley does not conflict with evolution I'm not 100% convinced on the ancient alien theory in general , but coming from what I understand, alot of people believe that an intelligent race combined their DNA with that of an Ape to jumpstart our evolution. This also could explain why depictions of alien sightings are humanoid.

What about Eric von Daniken? His evidence seemed more convincing. If there's a planet influencing Uranus and Neptune, then why hasn't it been found (along with a dozen Kuiper Belt Objects)? I think the ancient astronaut theory is interesting, but the best evidence is in ancient texts like the Mahabharata.

I think evolution is the best explanation.

There is no theory of creation or ancient astronaut theory. They are just stories without evidence.

And? What if you found out how all of this began-what would you do then? What difference does it make? Here we are-today. Go with what you have. It is possible to intellectualize way too much.
