Usually they say "Give him and inch, and he'll take a mile."
Meaning if we give into this small demand, they'll do whatever they want from there.

Simply put, the speaker is indicating that he or she doesn't have self control. The speach is referring to a measurment to illustrate that the person will never be happy once they are given something. An example, if you let a child stay up 5 mins longer, they want 10, then 20, then an hour. If you give out free coffee at work , the employees will ask for cream, suger, then danishes, sodas, longer breaks, a new break room, etc.
