I live in a townhouse. My neighbors in the building behind me have a rock band which practices in their garage ALL weekend long, usually 4-8 hours a day. Most of the time they keep the garage door shut, but it is still really loud and annoying. I feel like a prisoner in my own home. I can't open my windows or enjoy my patio. Is there any action I can take? Every website says to confront the neighbor, but these kids usually have a whole posse of friends with them at their rehearsals, and I can just picture them as the type to retaliate. They usually do stop playing by 10pm, but the fact that they play all weekend long, for several hours at a time, is extremely bothersome. There must be some sort of action I can take. I work hard all week. I want to enjoy my weekends again.

Most cities have noise ordinances. Call the cops. Your neighbors will get the message really fast.

Hello, you are really in a tough situation, sadly you are not alone on that boat, other than noise a lot of hard working people have to put up with rude neighbors on many different levels.
The saddest part is that rudeness goes beyond noise, if you used the law to enforce the law, then you are the bad guy and are in the line of fire of retaliation.
They only thing I can suggest is try to re-locate, if you cannot afford to, then leave home more, go see movies, see what type events your city offers to get you out of the house and hope one day soon the band will dissolve.
I know that is not a fair solution, but what is fair now days? I feel getting out is much better than getting and staying upset all the time which can reflect on your health.
The only other thing is to get with everyone else in your neighborhood and form a pack and stand up to the rude ones.

Good luck

Been there! Live in an apt and the people below us called themselves mucisians. Would play electric guitar (badly) between 10pm and 4am. Surprisingly they were allowed to stay an awfully long time! But once the new owners came they booted them right out. You need to keep calling the police while they are doing this. There is a decibal maximum they can go as well as times they have to abide by. The cops should come by with a thing that tests the loudness.

How old are they? Teenagers, younger, older? I would go to their mother first, explain the problem to her, and then ask to speak to them about the noise they are making. I would ask them if they could practice for a bit longer, eliminating the need to practice throughout the weekend.
I would write myself a note including the date and time that I talked to the neighbors. I would also suggest taking someone with you to talk to them, not for protection, but as a witness that things had gone politely and seemingly smooth.
That way, if your neighbors do retaliate, you can take your witness to the police and file a report about who you expect perpetrated the act of retaliation.

Is there no neighborhood association? If not get together with the other neighbors and find out if they are equally annoyed. You can speak to the offenders and ask that they seriously mute their instruments and soundproof the garage so as not to disturb you.

If all else fails, check with the town council. If you are too scared then you just have to take it.
