I googled it as I have never had one, and people not only had back problems, there were serious mold problems, problems with the bed's air pockets, problems with the parts failing, and the guarantee that isn't so hot. I would start saving up to buy a new mattress (just a regular one that you like), and also do some back strengthening exercises until you can buy one to help with the pain.

We are large people and we got tired of mattress's lasting only a few years. We purchased the sleep number bed 5 years ago.We are so pleased with it.Never a problem with our backs.I put my side on 40 and my husband 90.and,it is wonderful to sleep in a soft bed. My husband loves a hard bed so this is perfect for us.My husband has had back problems in the past.(surgery) and would complain about every bed we bought. But,not now.He is totally happy with this one.and,it is holding up under our weight.

We like ours very much even though we both have the same number. I have back problems and they were getting worse but now I sleep a lot better and don't wake up with more pain than when I went to bed.

My husband and I love our Sleep Number bed. Back problems and numbness actually went away. I think the trick is to find your right number. You can contact Select Comfort and they will help you determine your correct number. Good luck!
Per another person's comment: Mold issues are, supposedly, a thing of the past. My understanding is that the problem was corrected some years ago.

No my hubby & I are both retired, & have had ours for over a year. The main thing we have found is not enough pressure to keep our backs level. I use 45, my hubby 50. & we are old! lol
A soft matterase will let your spine sag. I hope this helps. Punch it 'till it's firm!
