I have a big sweet tooth and if I have one candy bar, treat or chip I end up eating the whole bag. How do I control my cravings?

Some very helpful tips I have found and tried myself:

1. All junk food should be put up. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Set healthy, ready-to-go fruits out on counters instead.
2. Speaking of fruits, grab a favorite one when you get a sweet tooth. Fruits are packed full of natural sugars.
3. Actually HAVE a dessert every once in a while. A healthy limit to these indulgences is three desserts a week (meaning every other day).
4. Try doing sit-ups. I don't have an explanation for this, but trust me, it works.
5. Sometimes a sweet tooth actually indicates a protein deficiency. Try having a teaspoon of peanut butter if all else fails.
6. Instead of dwelling on junk food thoughts, think about the absolutely drop-dead gorgeous body you will have without them.

It's okay to cheat or give yourself a treat when dieting.
Have your candy bar, ice cream or small bag (snack size) of chips and then drink water to take the extra craving away.
If you had a treat and you don't want another in the week then there are diet snacks you could eat or you could have a diet drink to satisfy that urge or drink more water.

Just find healthy versions of the things your craving, have a small piece of dark chocalate(sugar free if u can find it) or carob instead of a regular milk chocalate bar, look for chips made with sunflower oil like the ones from the Kettle Foods company(lower fat but if your on a low calorie diet may not be the best choice), diet drinks that use artificial sweetener like coke zero

Drink water. Lots and lots of water. I lost 50 pounds over a year ago and now if I see my weight go up a couple of pounds I drink at least 64oz of water a day for a couple of days and my weight goes right down. I also found that strawberries helped my sweet tooth. Take about 4-5 strawberries and cut them in thin slices. Eat it slowly. Also a small apple or small orange. Again cut in small bite size and eat SLOW. and don't forget the water.

Don't give up..you can do it....

I have the same problem so to avoid this, when you buy sweets or snacks, only buy one item at a time oppose to buying a whole bag, and keep small lollipops to suck on when you get a sweet tooth, they last a long time and have very few calories
I also drink sugar free koolaid to help, I'm drinking some now, and it taste really sweet

I have the same problem too. But i crave for french fries and anything cheesy and fried. So i just dont keep them in my apartment. But if your not the only one in the house, there different products that are sold that can help suppress cravings. If you dont have money, (like me-LOL!) what i do is DRINK LUKEWARM WATER before meals and snacks. This makes your stomach lining stretch rapidly, which stimulates the vagus nerv to shut down food cravings fast.

I have the exact same problem! I keep re-starting my diet everytime I eat chips, etc., saying "Just today, then tommorrow I'll start."

Get a hobby; it will take your mind of eating. Also, drink lots of water, it helps! And, just stop buying candy bars! Stop buying chips! Just stay away! And, you could try buying those 100 calorie bags like the first answerer suggested.

Good luck on your diet!

Chew on gum. Drink water. Drink green tea (without sugar or milk) Avoid even having just a little bit. After a week of being sooooo good, reward yourself with 1 Halloween sized treat (on the weekend)

Try low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein, and exercise. The foods are low caloried, and yet filling and healthy. Brisk walking is great for burning body fats.

Snack on healthy snacks and reduce sugar intake.
Read Reducing Sugar intake in my blog.

It is my lifestyle now. I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs/14kg and gained better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs/49kg for more than a year, with more fruits and complex carbs.

Details such as my experience, snacks, meals, recipes, foods to buy, reading labels, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.
