You are putting the cart before the horse here.

Focus on becoming a police officer FIRST. You will need to be a really good police officer (the best you can possibly be) for a minimum of three to five years before qualifying for a transfer into any specialized unit (like SWAT).

Other than that, learn how to be a cop, stay in good physical condition, and don't get into trouble.

Every team will have different requirements for time on the job and physical test requirements, so there is no one "universal answer".

Okay, the first thing you need to do is graduate from high school. College wouldn't hurt either. When you are 21, you can apply to a police department. When, and if you get hired, you must complete their training academy. After that, you will be considered a rookie for the next 5 years. However, if the department that may hire you has a SWAT team, you can apply. This doesn't mean you will make it.
Please stop watching too much TV because that is fiction. Being a cop is real life and you will be required to make real life decisions every day.
So, after high school, see if you still like cops. If so, go to college, study law and criminal justice. When you are 21, look for a police department where you think you might want to work.

If you want to become a SWAT officer, you must first become a law enforcement officer. Requirements to become a law enforcement officer vary and how you become a law enforcement officer varies depending on the law enforcement agency. Visit the websites of the pol agencies that you might be interested in working for. Agency websites often provide information about their applicant requirements, about how to apply, and about their hiring process. Some relatively common minimum requirements include having at least a high school diploma or ged, being a citizen, being at least 21 years old, having a valid driver's license, and having no felony convictions. Some relatively common steps in hiring processes include application, written test, physical fitness test, interview, drug test, medical examination, and background investigation. If you want to become a SWAT officer, try to get hired with an agency that has SWAT officers. Most SWAT officers are not full-time SWAT officers. Most agencies don't have full-time SWAT teams. Requirements to become a SWAT officer depend on the agency. If you want to become a SWAT officer, become the best officer that you can. Maintain an excellent record and reputation as an officer. Become as physically fit as you can, and become as proficient as you can with all of your issued or agency weapons.

Unless you have a lot of money and can pay for all the training and equipment yourself and your daddy is police chief, plan to join the Army and become an MP. If you meet the requirements and ask for the training, you will get the foundations the are needed to climb the career ladder in law enforcement. SWAT members have proven they can be trusted and know their jobs.

If you're serious don't waste time here. Learn as much as you can about weapons and tactics. go to an alternative bookstore and get books written about the subject....the stores are listed in the yellow pages. Also, go to a college library and read about the subject in mainstrean publications. Enlist in the military as soon as you can and be sure the recruiter understands that you want to be trained to be a sniper. After 6-8 years you will be able to retire and get a SWAT job with the police force of your choice.

Haha! I looked in to S.W.A.T. too!

I will tell you what you need to know via LAPD. You MUST, MUST, be a patrol officer for a minimum of 4-5 years. Then you can request a transfer to SWAT.

To become an LAPD officer, you need to graduate high school. It is recomended that you show initiative, though (i.e. go in to the military, go to college, or in my case join a law enforcement explorer/ cadet program.)

If you go in to the Army or Marine Corps for a couple of years, it will look good for SWAT.

When you turn 16, I suggest you go in to a police explorer/ cadet program. In my Cadet program, we learn all aspects of law enforcement. One week we have a law book cracked open, and the next week we are in a school (closed for the night) doing a mock hostage rescue (yes, SWAT style!!) wearing REAL SWAT gear! Check with your local police department, though. Some will let you join their explorer/cadet program at 12, 13 or 14.

College will also look good on a police resume' (I'm not going to college though, nor military)

If you have any more questions feel free to email me.

Well...to join the SWAT like those guys in the movie, you must be in the police force.Once you go there you have to prove your capabilities before they can train you.Of course you must be physically and mentally strong. The elite.Education is a important aspect as you need to show that you are educated to join the force.Sorry to say this but the world recognizes education first then talents.

This will give you a good idea.

You will also likely need a college degree - many police dept's are now requiring this for all officers.
