It could be your diet. I cut way back on carbs for about a month and was amazed to see how much more energy I had. I slept better, woke up earlier and was much happier overall. I fell back into my old pattern again, but am trying to eat brown foods instead of white, processed ones. I think all the processed foods we put into our bodies has a lot to do with feeling sluggish.

Yes, it could be either, or a combination of the two. Anemia is known to cause tiredness and weakness, and depression is known to make you want to stay in bed all of the time. However, since you emphasize the NEED to lie down, which suggests that you are already up, I would have to lean toward anemia more than depression. If it were the latter, you probably wouldn't have gotten out of bed in the first place.
At any rate, you probably do need to see a doctor, and I would suggest an internist, not a regular family doctor. Internists treat adults only, are specialists, and are trained to look at the big picture, for example, multiple contributing causes. Not intending any disrespect whatsoever to all of the great family doctors out there, and there are some truly great ones, but they might just give you some Prozac and an Iron supplement and send you on your way, without even looking for the true root cause.
JMHO!

It could easily have to do with both. During depression, bed seems safe and it is easy to go back there when things get rough. Anemia does make you very tired, but I don't believe it would make you uncomfortable sitting or standing.
I really think it has to be more with your depression.

Both-- but I think you need to tell the doc that too. It could be your meds or something new.
Hope you feel better soon!
