Volunteering at this one homeless shelter turned out to be pretty difficult. Usually, it's not so bad, but this one was something else. I was working very hard, and a lot of the homeless guys were openly making fun of me for working on their behalf. They said that only chumps work. When I was carrying heavy loads in and out of the shelter, they refused to open the door for me. When I worked at a sale that was benefitting the shelter, the homeless men crowded me and demanded free merchandise. They were verbally abusive, hostile, and in some cases, quite insane. I was challenged to several fights, and I'd never said a single unkind word to anyone there. I admire anybody who can work with the homeless as an ongoing ministry. I still volunteer at shelters, but that was admittedly difficult.

The most difficult thing for me to do that is beneficial to another person, is to stop enabling their (fill in the blank). My best friend was in a bad relationship and kept going back. I told her that she was hurting herself, her family and friends...it was self abuse. My sister is a drug addict and I have had to tell her she can't be a part of my life until she is clean. Some would say this is cruel. I think the real cruelty is watching the people in your life continue to abuse and degrade themselves and do nothing.

Taking in someone who I knew was NOT trustworthy as a favor to another person who IS a friend as that person did not have room.

Literally, the only reason I consented was because the woman was pregnant and I did not want her unborn baby to suffer if she was homeless....

This was before Hurricane Katrina and I know that both the woman I helped and her brother stole things from my home after the fact......

Ive never really run into something difficult about being nice. Its a thing of the heart for someone I deem worthy. If I have no heart for someone I am simply not nice to them.
So... I have no difficulties being nice.

It is never difficult to give to others . The most painful was donating Platelets for Hemophiliacs and kids with Cancer .
It takes about 4 hours with both arms with needles in them .

I have never found showing kindness to be something I must force myself to do. It's a way of life.
