At what age did your child move out the cot into a big bed? My youngest is 3 and still as content as can be in his cot, whereas the other two were out about age 2 years. I think I'm quite happy to keep things as they are for as long as possible! He's making no attempts to climb out and even when on holiday and he slept in a bottom bunk, he came home and went back to his cot as if he'd never been away. I thought he'd kick up a fuss then but I'm pleased the way it went!

In answer to those wondering about a night time wee - he has been night dry for a year and I can count on one hand the number of times he's woken in the night for a wee. He can last a good 12-14 hours. I have the monitor on so I can hear him if needed. The chances are, going by past experience, he'd come in to tell me anyway even if he was in a big bed. The other two always came in to tell me they were needing a pee so I had to get up anyway!

You're very lucky! I reluctantly gave my son a bed a couple of months ago, he's 2 1/2 now, but only because he was climbing out. He looks so tiny in it though lol. As long as your son isn't trying to climb out, I'd keep him in as long as possible.

My step-daughter (just turned 3 last week) has a cotbed. We took the sides off about a month ago as her cot is big and she was happy to sleep in it with the sides on (never climbed out). As she moves about alot I was worried to take the sides off but felt we had to. She has had a few nights where she has fallen out but not many. We put a safety gate outside her bedroom door incase she woke in the night and went wandering, I was scared she might fall downstairs in the dark.
Every child is different really

All my children were between 18 months and 2 years...depending on height and whether they were climbing out...all except my 2nd son who we moved to a big bed at 2 years old because his brother would climb into his cot and shove him out because he wanted to play....
If your son is happy leave him there but i do wonder how he would get to the toilet if he needed an urgent wee...

My son came out of his cot at about 1.5years then went into a toddler bed. It was great. He is now 2.5 and by the time he is 3 we are hoping to put him in a normal bed.
We had no problems, he though he was a big boy!

my daughter basically told me she wanted a big bed at 18 month, i had to put blankets on the floor for when she climbed out, gave in and got a bed, but if your little one is happy then there no reason to change things, could try taking a side off just to start with when the time comes

One of my sons moved himself out of his cot when he was ten months old, he climbed over the top! After that, I left the side down so he didn`t fall if he climbed out again, by the time he was one year old he was in a single bed.

My daughter moved out of her crib when she was 2.5 years (I was pg with my youngest). It was the best move - suddenly she slept really well.
My son began climbing out of the crib at 11 months and we had to move him to a bed then for his own safety. Because of his age, I won't say that he slept any better, but at least I wasn't worrying about him falling 3 feet to the floor.
If your son is happy, why push it? He will eventually grow out of it, and will eventually want a bed.. but if he's happy and sleeps well.. enjoy!

all my kids have been around 10 months to a year as the cot matress was getting a little flat where they laid.they have slept better in bed (with guards of course),and in the morning get out and play for a while ,while i doze a little longer.all babies are different and if yours likes it then use it.
