i need to work on my lower abs...will running a mile and doing set-ups and crunches everyday help me out?? i am not really sure wut to do about my lower abs?? can anyone help me out??

you would need to run way more than a mile to do anything for your lower abs. Doing actual ab workouts will help. Exercises like leg lifts and knee ups will help your lower abs. Using your legs as leverage to work your abs will do best. Check out Shape and Fitness magazines, they usually have great ab workouts. Running wont TARGET your lower abs, but wil help you overall. Try to work up to about a BASE point of 1.5-2 miles, and then try to increase to 3 miles.

You heard runners say they run 5 miles every day. Thats a far distance and it will take a while to build that type of endurance.

While running is good for the legs and cardiovascular it won't do too much for your abs. You need to do situps to strengthen those abs. You didn't say what you want to do. Have hard abs or loose the flab. Running will help you loose the fat all over.

Sit on edge of bench and raise your bended legs towards your chest or hang from lower arms on machine and raise knees towards chest.

Im 19,Oh yeah you see every time you pick up a leg you work one side of your abs so running or joging helps. after you finish running get a partner, and lay down onthe floor on your back, extending your arms all the way holding your partners ankles, then keeping your back on the floor at all time swing your feet up straight and together towards your partnerhe will then cacth them and throw them to the floor but not to hard your feet cannot hit the floor at all time, then swing them back straight, side to side too if you practice this youll have a six pack like me, and thick legs, I learned this in boxing practice.

a good lower ab workout is leg lifts. what you do is you lie flat on the ground with your arms straight and raise you legs up at like a 70 degree angle and hold it for as long as you can. you should keep doing this until you cant lifts your legs anymore

you want to do a cardiovascular activity to lower your bmi, it won't really help losing weight but your fat percentage will go down [leaner body with a nice muscle tone]. if you do crunches, do them correctly [chin pointing up, not towards your chest and hands on ears, not around your neck]. do you want to get a flat stomach, if so watch out for the calories you eat [remember you only lose 100 calories per each mile you run. 3500 calories=1 lb. every meal adds up to about 1500 calories]. whenever you don't eat the enough calories you need for energy, your body uses up the stored calories or known as fat [fat is released as sweat, energy and you know what]. this does not mean, you have to skip meals, nor do i recommend it. instead eat smarter, nutrition without all the calories. avoid sport drinks, and go for water. don't eat pasta, it's not like you're going to run a marathon daily. eat lots of fruits and water. eliminate fast food, soda, junk food, and so on. after a run, eat regularly, many people think you have to eat lots of food, because of all you lost. instead keep hydrated and eat fruits [bananas]. a good meal after a run, is a cup of chocolate milk and a banana. if you want more info. e-mail me, i love to help out.

Your regimen sounds as good as it gets except I'd suggest after you've run the mile to continue walking to complete a full hour of exercise.
