any white type vinegar.
If color is not an issue, I would recommend a red wine vinegar, or you may mix a non-wine, white vinegar and red wine vinegar in equal parts

I think the red wine vinegar is the best substitute.
White vinegar and white wine vinegar are NOT the same thing, though.

For a steak marinade - go with the red! It will be a little more heady than they white, but still wonderful!
