PS electric vehicles don't "just move the pollution" even if the electric comes from fossil fuel - the larger the generator the more efficient; generators are constantly monitored and maintained for optimum load & efficiency; they use unrefined fuel, close to source. Plus electric motors have far superior torque characteristics than infernal combustion; regenerative braking; no warm-up, no consumption when stationary ....

Electric scooters are available in Palmerston North as a commercial operating unit. Electric scoots are also advertised in the New Zealand 'Scoot' magazine - great for any scooter enthusiast. The new EV scoots look like any 50 cc type scoot except they have a permanent DC magnet motor (quite efficient) and a 'lead acid' or 'gel' battery. Distance is about about 18 km on a charge - great for around 'flat' towns and cities. Not sure how they would 'go' up Balwin Street in Dunedin though! If you use electricity from a fossil fuel source to top up the battery, use a petrol scoot! In Palmerston North, I hope we use the power from the windmills to top up our batteries.

Scooters have a step-through design, with the engine under the seat. Mopeds (or Motor-Pedal cycles) are like bicycles with an engine. Both generally have small engines, and are usually legal to ride without a motorcycle license.
