You can be a Jew (by ancestry or such), and you can be a Christian. To claim this is not the case is very ignorant. Thus we have Messianic Jews. The realization of Jesus as THE Messiah, and as the one that was foretold that would descend from David s line as the ONLY way is what makes one a Christian. The repentance for sins through Jesus is what makes one a Christian.

The term "Christ" is just the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew term "Messiah". Basically the same thing, just different denotations and connotations dependent on the faith.

the term christian was given originally by those who were greeks in the New Testament regarding those who persecuted believers. those who persecuted believers in Mashiach called believers "christians" Now a days it has a very broad meaning, many who call themselves christians are far from the original "believer". Many do not adhere to the teachings in the New Testament, thus have become apostate, yet call themselves "christian". many denominations have treated Jews and believers notoriously in the past (burned at the stake etc) and called themselves "christian" Holding false teachings and doctrines. Paul and Peter Jude and John all wrote against those who portrayed themselves as sheep but were really wolves .
Jews have a bad taste in their mouth regarding "christendom" and with good reason, due to the false , doctrines those christians held to and had not the fruit of true christians, "believers in Yeshua". So true believers in Yeshua are better off using the true terminology of the New Testament when describing themselves, that is ....if they are true believers.....as Believers in Yeshua. Christian is too broad of a word, some now a days are replacement theologists , not even keeping to the bible.

If it were wrong for Christians to listen to Jews, the Gospels would have a lot less Jesus in them. :<. Seriously; Jesus doesn't forbid listening to music; he forbids sins of the heart. You are listening to bad music when the music propels your mind towards sin and disrespect, which may well happen when a Christian artist sings. (As Paul cautions in 1 Corinthians, brothers in Christ are not exempt from potentially being liars or slanderers or adulterers, and they must be corrected by their brotherhood when they become corrupt in this sense.)

no, and you really can't be both.

if you don't believe that jesus was the christ, you're not a christian.

and if you do, you're not jewish. period. jews don't believe that jesus was the messiah, by definition. sorry CJ, but if your wife is "saved" by jesus, she is not jewish. jews don't need to be saved, we don't believe in original sin, and we don't believe jesus was the messiah. she can call herself jewish all day long but she's not.

if someone came to you and said they don't believe in jesus, he wasn't the son of god, didn't come to save us, wasn't the messiah at all, would you say they could still be christian?
if the answer is no then please show the same respect to judaism. you and your wife believe what you want, but you are christian, not jewish. there is no "messianic" branch of judaism, except for looking to the future. if you think the messiah has already come you are not jewish. if you think that messiah was jesus, you are christian.

matisyahu is jewish. he sings of moshiach, which is hebrew for messiah, but that is not jesus. moshiach has not come yet. remember that everything in christianity was invented by paganism or judaism, so you shouldn't be surprised to see similarities.

By technicality, Jews and Christians are the same religion, just VERY different dominations. Yeshua and Jesus are the same spirit, with different names.

I'm Jewish, but I'm still Christian. However, to define yourself as a Jew, you are not defining yourself as a Christian because of the difference in lifestyle.

For example, Jews do not eat pork or any kind of shellfish because it is unclean. There are differences in beliefs, though only small ones. However, if he says he is a Jew, then let him be known as a Jew.

*** Also, however, it depends on teh branch of Judaism. I'm Messianic, So I believe Yeshua was the messiah, not a prophet of God. If he's not Messianic, he's probably not a TECHNICAL christian.
