claims that since the Bible mentions unicorns at least five times, then they must have existed at one time.
I thought they were fiction.
What gives?

They exsisted all right. But only in stories.

In the Hebrew Old Testament, the word that is found in the texts referenced above is re’em, which is translated “wild ox” in the later versions. Most scholars believe the term refers to a large, fierce ox of the ancient world—a beast that now is extinct.

“Unicorn” does not appear at all in the American Standard Version, nor in most other more modern versions. This should be a signal that the “problem” is one of translation, rather than a problem with the original, biblical text.

Job 39:10 Canst thou bind the unicorn (rēm) with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

rēm - A masculine noun indicating a wild ox. It refers to a large animal with horns that are powerful offensive as well as defensive weapons (Num_23:22; Num_24:8; Psa_22:21 [22]). God is its creator and provider (Job_39:9-10). It is used figuratively of Joseph's strength and fecundity (Deu_33:17); and of the strength God gives His people, their exalted horn indicating their success (Psa_92:10 [11]). It stands for powerful persons, influential people (Isa_34:7).

They are mentioned several times. But they are not horses with a single horn on its snout. They are rhinoceroses! Look at a picture - one horn! btw "uni" means one!
