Check out The Stuttering Foundation's website at www.stutteringhelp.org for information on the causes of stuttering, what parents can do at home to help their child, and how to decide whether or not he needs to be evaluated by a speech therapist. Stuttering is NOT a learned behavior; parents do NOT cause their child to start stuttering; stuttering can be genetic.

Although some stuttering is caused by some kind of emotional event most is caused by a neurological loop or feedback between the speech and hearing centers in the brain. In some cases speech therapy can help by getting the person to slowdown and focus on their words. Others this won't help at all. In extreme cases the can actually implant an electrode into the brain to break the loop. A type of hearing aid can also be used for those that don't respond to speech therapy. Of course it's a different story in the case of stroke or injury.

Their are two main reasons for stuttering!!
One: The child has gone through a traumatic experience, so check with him and make sure everything is ok!
Two: His mind may just be working faster than he can get his thoughts out!
Be patient and see what happens with this, it could just be a stage! If it continues for a few months or a school teacher says something to you then you should seek help for your little boy!

sometimes kids stutter because their thoughts are faster than they can say them. try to observe when he's stuttering and what he is trying to say. You could also have the school speech pathologist screen him. It may also be a phase, since you said he recently started this. Good luck!

Sometimes their minds think faster than their mouths can go. You have to start getting him to slow down in talking to take a breath after each word and to relax.

stuttering is a learned habit. it's not something they are born with. if he is stuttering you or someone is interrupting his speech often. let him speak and never finish his sentences for him.
