Sounds like Okra to me. But I would describe them as looking like a chili pepper. To me when they are cooled they look like they are covered with uncooked egg white, sorta snooty. When I cook them I will boil them until done. Rinse them and dip in egg mixed with butter milk then fry them in lard.

I dont know what you mean about gooey vegeteble..but this name come from indonesia..I see from your explanation for shaped like zucchini..I think that is "belimbing wuluh" or in english "wuluh starfruit"..if the taste is very sour, thats right name..
