Planes pretty much do fly themselves. The pilot does very little other than read the newspaper and drink coffee. It would take very little modification to make it fly alone completely. What are your thoughts on this

They would probably start with cargo flights, and use a remote control. Once that works then they'd do it with passenger planes.

Well it is possible to have planes without pilots however convincing the public that it is safe will be another matter! Humans would feel much better if there was a pilot on board to give it a human touch if something went wrong.

To those that think pilots don't do anything at the moment "get real" it is like any job there is alot of behind the scenes stuff that happens so get your facts straight before saying we don't do anything. It isn't pot luck that you end up safely at your destination.

Despite what you may think, the technology to fly passengers commercially without pilots is a very very long way off.
Computers are very good at monitoring and carrying out repetitive tasks, they can't however innovate, problem solve, or make cognative decisions based on incomplete data.
As an example...a computer pilot cannot evaluate a medical emergency, or a slippery runway.
Have you ever had to use the ctrl alt delete function? just ask the US military how many remotely piloted aircraft they have lost.

In the cockpit of the future, a human will be sitting in the left hand captain's seat. A pit bull will be in the right hand copilots seat. The job of the captain will be to feed the dog. The job of the dog will be to bite the captain if he touches anything.

Well..I was told in the near future airliners will only have 1 pilot and a dog in the cockpit..The dog will be there to bite the pilot if he touches anything.

Hopefully not. I wouldn't feel safe without a real person behind the controls.
