to a mexican beach

Veracruz (formerly Vera Cruz) means true cross from words vera = true (in old Spanish, comes from Latin vera=truth) and cruz = cross

Hope that helps ;)

You'd be sailing to a town on the coast of Mexico...and the name means "True Cross".

if you like history, "Island of Vera Cruz" was the first name Brazil received from the Portuguese men.
That was in the 16th century, when they thought Brazil was an island.

Greetings marco, as Elaine already said one possible translation could be "True Cross", but Vera is in old Spanish, and it is now said "verdadera".
Anyway, you shouldn't translate these things, because they are city names, and it would be dumb to do so.
Just imagine you start saying "The Angels" instead of "Los Ángeles".

See you later.
