No. No no no no!

A cat can lay on a baby in friendship not knowing that the baby can't push him off if he can't breathe, but no cat intensionally smothers a baby. That's a stupid myth and should be stopped.

No. This is an old superstition.

The truth is that cats, and other animals, like warm places to sleep, and sometimes that is up against another creature like a human.

The superstition came about because, on occasion, cats have been known to curl up next to an infant in a child's bed, and accidentally block the child's airway (pressing against the child's mouth and nose).

It's not something that any cat does on purpose, and does NOT happen on a regular basis, but it should still be a concern if there is a newborn child in the home.
No pets that are able to jump into a child's crib (including dogs, especially young ones) should be allowed in the same room with a sleeping baby - just in case.

no, not at all. thats a myth. people say that its because the cat is attracted to the smell of milk on the baby's breath, but its not true.
