Allied Powers:
United States of America, Britain, Italy, Poland, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Israel, Qatar, Mexico, Southern Sudan.

vs.

Axis Powers:
China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Northern Sudan, Venezuela, Cuba.

You neglected to say what would start the war. It takes something pretty major for countries to line up together like that: e.g. Hitler started invading his neighbours, Britain and France warned him to stop, he ignored them and invaded Poland, so they declared war. Others joined them because they also objected, others because of historic ties through the British empire, and others because Hitler invaded them too. Japan and Italy joined Germany because they had signed the Axis treaties, having like-minded totalitarian governments.

A similar line-up of nations on each side occurred during the Cold War due to differeng ideologies (capitalism vs communism). But it never developed into a World War. Why would there actually be a World War in the scenario you suggest, instead of another Cold War? And what would start it?

The aggresive country invading others at the moment is the USA (with minor help from a few allies). Some believe it's to "defend freedom", others believe it's empire-building. But the situation is different because the USA dwarfs all other countries economically and militarily, whereas Germany was just a strong power among many.

China, India and Europe are long-term economic threats to the US, but they are also economically aligned as major trading partners. They can't do without each other, even if they fall out from time to time. Why would they be military adversaries?

I seriously doubt that there is a cogent reason for worrying about this scenario at all. However, given that you asked I will try to reason through the miasma. China would be hard pressed to find many allies because the result is inevitable and those regimes that might support her are too smart to commit suicide. Iran might join her but cannot provide much physical aid due to its location and own problems, N. Korea would certainly be in it from the beginning and likely S Korea would be quickly overrun with China and N Korea incurring loses like none ever seen before on earth. ANy small guts like Venezuela or Cuba would be insignificant. The US would immediately have Japan (which would take a serious battering but in the end provide many of the men and the launching site for the final invasion of the mainland), Taiwan (which would be overrun in a massive amphibious assault) but would maintain a government and army in exile and might rule China afterward, most of the Western world, the Arab countries and Nato countries would support the USA directly even if they don't declare war. The Chineses subcontinent countries and Indonesia would remain nuetral but Vietnam. Thailand and Cambodia might try to grab off a few hundred square miles each by allying with the USA. India, Pakistan and Afganistan would declare war on China and try to annex land. [One of the two nuclear powers here could be the cause of the war escalating to a nuclear war). The old countries of the USSR would join on the US side because there were always Sino-Soviet border disputes and Russians have long memories. In about 3-5 years there would be 4-500 miilion KIA on the Chinese side (depends on the use of nukes -- they should not use first and we won't first), the N koreans and Taiwainese would lose 500,000 mostly military, Japan would lose 100,000 to over one million (again depending on nuclear situation), other loses are harder to predict but would be insignificant. When the war was over Red China would be no more. Neither would N Korea or anyone else siding with China. India, Pakistan, Afganistan, Russia, Vietnam, S. Korea, Western Russia would certainly have much more territory. Japan would have a few more islands and more security.
If you were a Chinese leader would you start a war?

wow the previous answer was pure bs.

the war if it were to happen would be over territory and natural resources. The Chinese would probably come out on top on a encounter with the US unless the US goes on a nuking spree. the reasons for that would be that most essential living supplies of America are provided by the Chinese and its supporters. the Chinese could remain self-sufficient in a war while the US cant. the two factions would probably be:
-US
-UK
-Israel
-Japan
-South Korea
-Canada

-China
-North Korea
-Russia
-Iran
-Pakistan

Neutral
-Germany/France/Spain/Euro-countries(they don't like to get tangled up in US affairs as seen in current war in Iraq)
-India(wouldn't want to offend either side/trade with US/neighbors with China)
-African countries(obvious reasons aka AIDS)
-South American Countries(war not likely to affect them)
-South Asian countries(too poor)

War would be quick and decisive. the first offense would be made by China/Pakistan/Iran/Russia against Iraq and Israel. they would take over the already battered US forces and the relatively weak Israeli army. they would control key oil supplies that would cripple the US and its allies. Secondly, China and North Korea would easily take over the Asian Continent including S. Korea and Japan. At this point, the US would be quite desperate and likely ask for a cease fire to keep things under control since the likely hood of a civil revolution here in the US led by peace loving democratic pansies would probably take place. The US allies would be quick to see that the US is no longer as strong as it once was and withdraw support. They would be come neutral or perhaps even pro-chinese.

The out-come would not be good since the signs of Chinese domination in the world has been obvious but ignored for many decades.

Even if usa, england, france, japan-yes , and some other eu countries come togheter they still would'nt stand a chance against china, because 100% in a few decades they will be the world no1 economy by far, if you look at the anual gdp increase.
The war will be probably over energy resources as the world is too lazy to find a another re-ussable energy source. I reckon most the east will be with china, except japan, and the emirates also.

WW3 I think would break down this way:

China vs. United States of America

Siding with China:

Russia due to historical dislike with U.S.
Venezuela due to dislike with U.S. and critical oil supplies.
North Korea as mentioned.
Perhaps some Middle East countries not friendly with U.S. policies.
Possibly some African nations depending on resources.

Siding with United States:

Most of Europe, England, Canada and the like.
Israel due to historical alliances.
Possibly some Middle East countries "friendly" with U.S. such as Kuwait or Qatar.
Turkey due to historical alliances.
Japan out of fear.
Taiwan due to political distaste of China.
India due to position in the region and ties with the U.S.
Pakistan for the same aforementioned reasons.
Perhaps some old former Eastern Block states such as Latvia who would fear being swallowed up again by Russia.

As for everyone else it would depend on territorial conquest and economic strengths. Later

I think the next World War will be started between two or more countries, of limited resources, that do not have nuclear capabilities. However, sides will be taken for economic reasons and China may very well side with the largest economically stable countries in order to support its explosive economy and populace. Look to places where the natural resources of their economy will be depleted within the next thirty years. Water, cattle grazing, and grain farming may overshadow oil, coal, and natural gas consumption.

You're going to need to create a few more details for your scenerio.

Because there is little for either to gain from war with the other, you're going to have to provide a few more details. Perhaps something dealing with Taiwan? But then why would North Korea get involved?

I read this decades ago in a christian book that described revelation prophesy.
The author said that the heart of WW3 would be started in Israil, that it would be attacked by surrounding countries. The US is one of Israil's allies, we give them millions of dollars for weapons and military equipment to help keep them safe. Other countries will be against the US though, and will help the enemies.
