is it because they think it is a 'gay plague?' what's their excuse for just sitting on their millions while billions die of this hideous disease?

Zdaddy you are wrong. What about countries where the disease is prevalent and it is hard to find a husband or wife without HIV? and would you find it easy to ask every potential husband or wife, "Can you give me written proof you do not have HIV"

also, fair point about christians in general. I know a lot of christians are doing great work, my sister is helping africans in a hospital at the moment. I'm just thinking that the televangelists, albeit a very small fraction of the religious population, should be setting an example.

Well, in the Charismatic universe, from which many televangelists come, health and material wealth are believed to be bestowed upon the most deserving.

I refuse to watch any of those evangelists because none has proved that they are worth anything. Like you say. Why don't they donate money to these concerns and stop judging everyone, like Zdaddy. HIV isn'r just a gay disease or a disease of those with loose sexual attitudes. Everyday there are new people infected and these people have either been help people who have been hurt or they are working in hospitals.
Maybe if there was less wholesale discrimination and more helping people just because they are people, this world wouldn't look so bad.
But I am just one Pagan speaking as I would expect a true Christian to speak! People should be judged by what they do and not by what we think they do.

Only God can judge the hearts of these televangelists. All we can say is that their witness is poor. The bible plainly tells us that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye or a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God. It is also never a good idea to lump a group of people together and judge them all the same. Some people with television ministries may actually be reaching the lost and doing good with the money they receive, but they are not, as the bible tells us we ought, avoiding the appearance of all evil. At our church, which BTW is recorded for television, the pastor preaches because he is called. He does not receive a salary for his work. He works a full time job as a carpenter to support himself and his family. The money received in the offering and the donations made to the church are used for paying for the church building and for helping those in need.

The answer is twofold. They are in the business of making a good living for themselves and even if they could be coxed into parting with some of their ill gotten gains, it certainly would not go to HIV sufferers. After all those little babies born with HIV should know better!

As a Christian I would say that HIV is often spread by sex befoe marriage which is a sin so by giving money to these causes the would be indirectly supporting sin.
However I know that everyone who has HIV it because their own fault but most people don't seem to care about that

Because they are too busy buying their multi-million dollars homes and their extravagant cars. They do not have time or money to worry about the people who really need prayer and assistance, Robert Tilton is a prime example - what a hypocrite!

Do you know what televangelists do with their money? (The same questions could be asked of any rich person.) Is it possible that they DO give away a lot of money, and God blesses them with more? The Samaritan's Purse, World Challenge, and other Christian ministries give to social causes (AIDS, poverty, etc.)

I have no idea what the tele-evangelists are thinking. But I will say that biblical evangelists are primarily interested in curing the heart rather than treating the symptoms. If you were gardening, you don't trim the weeds, you kill the roots. Put to death your works of darkness and put on the Holy One, Jesus Christ.
We are all born with a terminal illness, sin. The only cure for it is the blood of Christ.
Sin is much more dangerous than AIDS.

Before you judge them without knowledge of what they donate to, why not investigate first. The 700 Club on TBN does more humanitarian work than any one single group either private or governmental, in the entire world.
