I think we said something like, "This is so awkward. Everyone is staring at us. When are they going to invite everyone else out to dance?"

In a very public place with all eyes fastened upon the bride and groom as they dance, the whisperings are the private thoughts of two lovers who have just had their dream come true and have just been wed to each other. They whisper because the words are meant for no other ears but their own.

I remember us just being so happy to have a few minutes of privacy - I know that sounds dumb since everyone is watching, but it was the first time we had been "alone" since after the ceremony! I just remember each of us telling one another how much we loved each other, and I didn't want to let go of him during that dance!

Everyone thinks they are whispering lovey things to each other, but If you think about it, that is the first time they have been "alone" since their vows. They might be saying, "Have you seen how drunk Aunt Millie is?" My wife told me, "Hold me up. Don't let me trip." I assured her I would hold her up. She told me her feet were killing her. I pulled out a chair, sat down, pulled her onto my lap, and we just rocked back and forth for the rest of the dance. Then she did say, "Thank you. This is why I love you soooo much."

My husband and I didn't whisper to each other. The people you see doing that are probably just nervous about performing in front of a lot of people and are talking about coordinating their dance or just making small talk because it makes them feel better about being "on stage".

Just checking with each other that everything is going well, probably it's the first time since they left the church/registry office that they have had a chance to talk to each other lol...

That first dance is one of the first "alone" moments they have had since she walked down to meet him at the alter. I am sure that what they are talking about is as varied as any conversation. Speculation is not ours to have. This is their private moment..

One of the best reasons I know of is because everyone expects them to whisper.

most likely they will be telling each other how they feel about the wedding or each other or just to comfort one another since all eyes is on them at that particular moment....
