just fascinated as to how they work and how many faults can be corrected electronically by using the service menus.

a rear projection tv works exactly like a normal tv but the picture is thrown onto the screen by two mirrors aligned to the screen so you can see the picture from the front.
the faults that can be corrected will be exactly the same as for a normal tv because in fact you are watching a normal tv that has had the picture transmitted via two mirrors

there are a few rear projection technologies. All use some kind of mirrors.

the old one has three lamps, red, green, blue and works just like a TV with three guns inside the tube.

the new one is DLP and uses one lamp, and a DLP chip.

each mfg has a different idea of what to put into a service menu. And there is different tuning to do for each technology.

If u pick a specific set u may be able to find that info - but it is not readily available.
