Its a baby and it doesent bite, My Uncle and my dad say rats are bad and my uncle gave me a bag of rat poison. How do I tell them thats aren't mean and ugly if you raise them right?

Congratulations- rats are the coolest pets!
You don't need to convince any one that they are good pets, people have their opinions and are entitled to them- even if they are incorrect and people will always offer their opinion regardless of weather it has been asked for or not.
Give your uncle back the bag of rat poison- and while you hand it back to him give your new rat a kiss on the nose..sure to give your uncle a heart attack..lol.

Rats are actually very very smart! They can be really friendly too, if raised right like you said. Ask them if you can keep it for a certain amount of time, like a month and tell them that the rat will be trained. Of course that means that you will have to work with the rat and make sure that it continues not to bite. Hopefully they will believe you and see that rats are really nice creatures. Also to help you, research rats and learn some stuff about them, then tell your dad and your uncle what you learned and how they are really good pets. I know people that have had rats and they were trained they would let them out of their cage to clean it and when they were done cleaning it they would call them like you would call a dog and they would come and climb back into the cage. Their names were renuk and Snowball. they would sit on their shoulder and just rest there they would fall asleep in their lap while they petted them. I know people that are afraid or people that dont understand want to get rid of them. I dont know how old you are but you could do some internet research on pet rats. show them and tell them you will take care of it and show them that the rat will not be a bad pet. You have to keep Playing with them often like every day or every other day that way they will know you and not bite. Keep them used to you so they know you will not hurt them. Good luck.

Hopefully your dad & uncle will *see* what great pets rats are once you've had your little one for awhile. They're so sweet & smart, I don't know how *anybody* who's ever actually known a pet rat could dislike them.

I think that any pet if raised the right way, can make a great companion! Tell your uncle and dad that you really like your new pet and they are just going to have to deal with it. What does your mom say? Get her to take your side, even if she doesn't agree, you know they will listen to her! LOL....Good Luck!

tell it to him straight just say look here my rat doesnt bite he is cute and thats insulting me because people buy pets to match their personality and that means you would want to poison me. Thats just rude to give me rat poison and stop annoying me I get your point and I ain't givin him poison!

You are right. I don't know how to convince someone else of that, though. My advice is to raise your rat right, enjoy it and let other people SEE what a great pet it is for you.
